I grew up on wrestling, idolized Jake Roberts and had my heart broken as a teenage kid when I went to the China Club in NYC to hang out after Summerslam and meet the WWF icons. He was so inebriated, so unapproachable... I was devastated when I saw him. To follow his journey, see him in Beyond The Mat smoking crack... I honestly thought he would be dead by now. This documentary proves that nobody is beyond redemption and nothing is impossible. Amazing story that will motivate anyone who allows it to. Nothing but love and respect for Jake Roberts, Scott Hall and especially DDP.
Solid film. It aint pretty down there but Jake had enough about him to get DDP involved and the viewers hooked. When I watched wrestling back in the day, all my so called cool friends equated it with disney world fantasy but I always knew through the promos that there was some serious coke use goin on and these guys were right on the edge burning it at both ends... it was all frenetic physical and relentless... and the goin up came crashin down for so many of them who became artefacts of that world they inhabited. Im reminded of the new wolverine trailer and the way we viewers let wrestlin go and left those who entertained us to rot ... ''someone will come along''.... ''someone has come along...'' Fair play to DDP.
