Cancelled

ITV has cancelled World War II drama Home Fires after two series, the broadcaster has confirmed.

A spokeswoman said: “We are incredibly proud of what Home Fires has achieved, but the ITV commissioning team continues to refresh the channel’s drama portfolio, hence the decision not to commission a further new series.”

I'm really angry about this. If they knew they were going to do this they could at least have given us closure to the story lines. They've left it on a cliffhanger! Not happy! 😡

reply

You're not the only one. Many are angry, including the crew.

They do this a lot lately - ending on a cliffhanger. Same with Jericho which I enjoyed. If there is any doubt about a series returning, or, at least, it's not cut-and-dried, they shouldn't leave loose ends untied. It's cruel and unfair to the viewers.

Damnit, I want to kick whoever made this decision right in the taint. Season 2 was a little slower, but I wanted it to end with all the stories and characters finding closure.

right in the taint

Oh my, I haven't heard that one in years. I'm laughing so hard, my eyes are tearing up!

A typical bland excuse from ITV. What they MEAN is "the advertisers don't like it", so it gets binned. ITV is totally under the control of big advertisers, and has nothing but contempt for its viewers. As for leaving us in mid-air, the same happened in both "Heartbeat" & "The Royal" (major character seriously injured - we never find out what happened to them).

reply

The BBC does the same thing (canceling programs left on a cliffhanger).

reply

It should be a golden rule for TV enterprise that when they decide to cancell a show ending with a cliffhanger, they should at least make a TV movie to give closure to the storyline.

reply

where is our closure dammit! i really want to know what happens next *sulk*

I just watched the Vicious Special and then found out It was cancelled. No S3. Now,I read this.

reply

Oh that is disappointing. Especially with that cliffhanger and knowing a part of S3 has been written and all the story lines mapped out.

reply

Maybe they cancelled it to keep some of their reality shows going..

What a bunch of hypocrites ITV are. They cancel this show to "refresh the channel’s drama portfolio" (which I assume means commission new dramas), then revive clapped-out "Cold Feet" from twenty years ago, which was a rip-off of "Friends" in the first place.

Here in Australia had an equally great series, A Place To Call Home, which Channel 7, a free to air station cancelled after two series. It also left on a cliff hanger and viewers were outraged. Devotees plus cast and crew petitioned heavily and managed to get enough support for Foxtel to buy the rights and continue. They have just finished showing Series 4 with more to continue. The following hasn't deminished even going onto a pay channel. Meanwhile back at Channel 7 in its old time slot they are showing such "great" programmes as " First Kiss" and such like. Such intelligent, thought provoking drama, NOT. Idiots😡
