I thought Elsa learned to control her powers

Reading the short plot description, I don't understand why we have to have Elsa go through an other phase with not being able to control her powers again. That was a big part of what Frozen was about.

I trust that you guys know what you're doing. I just hope you do something original here.

I think the stress of planning Anna's birthday might be a big part of it... I'm not sure. Whatever it is, it's Frozen! So I'll be happy.

I think that the reason Elsa loses control of her powers may be because she gets sick (fever).

That makes sense I guess. I was over thinking it before. I don't really care what they do as long as they give us more Frozen. And more emotions on Elsa and Anna's faces. I love looking at Elsa's face during Let It Go. Especially the screen caps:

I'm hoping for the same thing. The facial expressions, and even the overall bodily expressions for Elsa and Anna are so amazing in Frozen! It really makes you feel what they're feeling in the movie. I just can't wait for Frozen Fever and really hope to see more of that.

And thanks for the link to those screen captures! They're great!!!

When you stop and think about it, it's probably because of Olaf.

My personal interpretation was that Elsa learned the key to her powers but that it didn't necessarily mean she is suddenly a master. Even before she learns the truth, during her performance of "Let It Go" she displays the same level of "control" as the beginning and ending of the movie, but when she comes under attack from Hans' crew it slips. Additionally, she's still human. No matter how much love she has she can still feel fear and doubt herself (which she might if she's worried about Anna's party going off well). The mechanics of her powers are very, very fuzzy as how she deals with them and those around her is the main issue. So, I think there's still a little room to explore her relation with her powers.

Even totally disregarding my opinion, there's also the fact that in reality, no matter how physically strong you are... getting sick is going to diminish some of your natural ability and strength to do your normal, everyday things (like controlling your magic ice powers?). If you've ever had a bad cough as part of an illness and been completely able to hold it in 100% of the time, then you're amazing... but most people I know submit to fits of coughing and feel like they can't stop no matter how much they want to from time to time. I imagine it could be the same with Elsa's powers. Some people even get really moody when they're ill or feeling bad physically.

That makes sense. I never thought about it like that. When someone is tired, they have less self control.

She caught a cold, which is what's messing with her powers.

If you're happy and you know it, go sit in the corner and think about your life.

In the interest of making more money for Disney, Elsa agreed to allow her control to lapse.

I wouldn't regard this as her losing control of her powers. It about the equivalent of controlling your speech. If you yawn or sneeze it inhibits your control of your speech. Her fever in the short inhibits her control over her powers in a similar way.

It's because she was sick that her powers went all kerflooey. You see this in a lot of movies and TV shows where a character has magical powers. Take Charmed for example - they always talk about how their powers are linked to their emotions and when they're emotions get out of control or are too overwhelming, magic mishaps tend to happen, especially when they were just learning how to control their magic. Elsa's magic is an intrinsic part of her so when she got sick and started sneezing, her exerting her powers was basically just a knee jerk reaction.

Also, how AWESOME was Frozen Fever! With a new song too! I was thrilled to bits, I tell you; thrilled! I'm tempted to go watch Cinderella (which was beautiful and magical all on its own) again just to rewatch this brilliant animated short.
