1. Was the story between Lena and Daniel at all true?

2. About what year did this take place?

Story takes place in 1973.

I can't attest to the complete accuracy, but yes the main facts are true (or alleged). Daniel was taken by the military police to Colonia. He was tortured. Lena did get in. They were there. They did escape. The German embassy did screw them over along with the help of General Pinochet. Beyond that I can't truly say. There isn't much info on Wikipedia.

There is some info at the end of the movie....guess you didn't see that.

I saw all the info at the end. I gathered (while watching the movie before the info at the end) that the story of Paul Schafer and the camp Colonia was, in general, true. I was unsure about the story of Lena and Daniel -- whether or not it was true.

1) According to the German Wikipedia, the characters of Lena and Daniel are fictional, whereas the going-ons within the Colonia are based on true facts, as well as ties between the Leader of the Colony, the Chilean Military and the German Embassy.

2) 1973
