at the meeting with Lucas, why did Robert Taro not tell him?
Why didn't the Mayor tell Lucas that he never knew Claudia was pregnant and that he only just found out that Lucas was his son?
It makes no sense. He came there to make amends with Lucas. Instead he allows him to continue to believe that he knew he was his son all his life and never came to help him. How does that help make amends? How does that bring them together? It doesn't; it only cements the idea that he didn't care about him at all. It confirms to Lucas that Robert Taro abandoned his mother and him. That is the last thing Robert Taro wanted to happen.
I get that the writers wanted to keep the rift between them. But they could just as easily have done that without Robert Taro failing to tell Lucas he only just found out.
The way they wrote that scene is so far out of reality that viewers cannot buy into it.
If this happened to a father in real life he would have told his son that he only just found out, that he never knew about the pregnancy, and that he is sorry that he was not there for him in his childhood.
Did the writers do this in order to make the viewers yearn for Robert Taro to speak up? Well, that worked. But it only made the scene completely unbelievable. There is no way it would play out like that in real life.
