What's with the short shots?


Shots are usually very short when two or more characters are involved.

That's of course easier to shoot and make, as actors have only a few words to learn per shot, and any error is easier/faster to fix.

However, short shots are a "show atmosphere" killer.
Best movies and series have longer shots (Breaking bad, The godfather, ...).

Too bad as "Marseille" has a "House of Cards" touch (picture/photography, sound, global atmosphere), and some of the actors/actresses perform very well.

Yeah, these were weird, and I think they'll tighten up a lot for season 2, by getting rid of the flab. My missus compared these insert clips as like watching a Bolivian soap opera. I imagine it was as you say, an attempt at atmosphere, but it didn't work...
