Can this be nominated for an Oscar in the documentary category?

Can this get nominated or will critics and the academy never go for it unless it's about penguins or genocide or penguin genocide which documentaries ususally get nominated.

It won’t be nominated for a documentary because it is not really a documentary, it's a commercial. I know most Mormons will say but it says documentary in the title description so it's a documentary, just like they say we have Jesus Christ in our church name so we are Christian; what gets completely lost on Mormons in both counts is that it’s the content that matters not what’s in the title.

A church is a christian church who believes Christ is their savior. Mormons are christian, Catholics are christian, calvary are christian, harvest people are christian. People need to understand what it is to be christian and Christ wouldnt crap talk others he would support the sinnner not the sin. People need to see what type of people mormons are and judge that and the Mormons i know are caring and supportive not the type of,christians that tear other religions down. People should learn what it actually means to be Christ like and not care what others think.

It probably needs to get above 0% on Rotten Tomatoes to receive any oscar consideration. It might get nominated for a razzie.

I've just nominated it for a 'Razzie'
They're going to introduce a new category for Infomercials.
- Scoring zero on Rotten Tomatoes means it really has a very good chance of winning.

It doesn't matter who you are- the most devoted Mormon, or the most devoted atheist- this movie is not a documentary as it is defined by 99.99% of the population. How is this even unclear to anyone?

Because most documentaries have an agenda, the makers of this film can argue that they are no different. Using only that perspective- having an agenda- they have a case. But that's obviously too narrow, and their film clearly violates the spirit of the definition.

The way "Loose Change" is viewed as a documentary- making it into the genre perhaps, but existing in the very fringe at best- this movie can't claim to even serve a paranoid version of the truth. Its sole existence and reason for being is to promote the LDS religion. It's that simple. And a movie that exists for that reason only is called propaganda. If this movie were put into another filmmaker's point of view (who didn't have the single-purposed furthering of an institution in mind) and that filmmaker provided some context- then *that* movie could be considered a documentary. But not as it is here on IMDB. See numbers 2 and 3 in the definition below.

Full Definition of PROPAGANDA (Merriam-Webster):

1: capitalized: a congregation of the Roman curia having jurisdiction over missionary territories and related institutions

2: the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person

3: ideas, facts, or allegations spread deliberately to further one's cause or to damage an opposing cause; also :a public action having such an effect

propaganda - noun (Concise Encyclopedia)

Manipulation of information to influence public opinion. The term comes from Congregatio de Propaganda Fide (Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith), a missionary organization established by the pope in 1622. Propagandists emphasize the elements of information that support their position and deemphasize or exclude those that do not. Misleading statements and even lies may be used to create the desired effect in the public audience. Lobbying, advertising, and missionary activity are all forms of propaganda, but the term is most commonly used in the political arena. Prior to the 20th century, pictures and the written media were the principal instruments of propaganda; radio, television, motion pictures, and the Internet later joined their ranks. Authoritarian and totalitarian regimes use propaganda to win and keep the support of the populace. In wartime, propaganda directed by a country at its own civilian population and military forces can boost morale; propaganda aimed at the enemy is an element of psychological warfare.
