Uma Thurman his first victim?

Or just the first he chose to tell about? I assumed at the beginning that this was the first time he committed murder (funny, the idea that her accusing him repeatedly of being a serial killer would actually turn him into one), but after watching, I'm less sure.

And if he was already a serial killer, why the hell didn't he kill her a whole lot sooner? ha

I think the purpose was to showcase that women are what drive men to become lesser versions of themselves, sometimes to an extreme degree.

reply

Erm, sure, but that doesn't have anything to do with my question...

From what I recall, his narration is recounting all of his murders, starting from his very first. Based on that, I believe it's fair to assume that Uma Thurman was his first murder.

reply

No, he only specifically speaks about five incidents. He claims to have killed something like 70 people.

Was it clarified whether or not the incidents we see were the first in sequential order, or only those of significance to him? I guess if you had the answer, you wouldn't be posing the question.

Sorry, it has been awhile since I've seen the film.

If it's open to interpretation, I still stand by Uma Thurman being his first kill.

reply

Those of significance throughout his career. I don't think it ever explicitly states either way if it was his first, just seemed to me that it would be funny if it was, what with her accusing him of being a serial killer before he ever actually was one.

SPOILERS, as you might guess.

I just saw it last night. As I recall, he's retelling to Virg (my spelling, as he's "Virgil") the more significant ones and, he says, in random order.

He's so meticulous that I don't believe there's anything random to it. The family tale might even have been suggested by Virg saying Jack has a need for family ties, as his real ones were missing. That made me think he might've killed at least some of his family.

I suspect #1 (Thurman) was picked because she "forced" him to kill her. I think he was already in "the business," given his cruelty to animals in childhood, e.g. the ducky :( . He was headed somewhere else, maybe a planned murder, and this harridan bugged him so much he had to change his plans. That would annoy the hell out of him (pun intended).

He puts all his victims in the freezer. Her body is the first in the freezer. Ergo, she is the first in his serial killing.
