Comparing the rotten tomatoes rating to this one...

...It certainly looks like the film might be getting downvoted to hell by homophobes. Well, that's depressing. Hope I can find somewhere to see the film soon.

Just checked the rotten rating, wow. What a difference! If you live in Melbourne you can watch it at the International Film Festival in a couple of weeks. I'm looking forward to it!

I saw it in a Landmark theater in Boston this weekend with the director's Q&A afterwards. It was very good -- way more cultural history than I expected, especially given the 77min running time. It did not feel rushed or abbreviated, felt like a 90min doc. He mentioned at the end of the Q&A that it is also available via some Video On Demand services, if it doesn't come to a theater in your area.

Just saw it at a 2:15 matinee in Durham NC. I had very low expectations and ended up loving it. I think all gay men can relate to some part of it. I also think anyone can relate to societal pressure in one way or the other. Some things, like the Disney examples, really blew me away. I want to re watch it again when it hits Netflix.

It's on netflix now.

Or maybe the critics don't want to sound homophobes.

reply

Or maybe they're not and actually enjoyed the film.

Can't stop the signal.

It could also be poorly reviewed by the LGBT as well. The whole idea of trying to change how you sound to conform might not ring well with some of them.

But the whole point of the movie is that David winds up embracing his voice by the end of the movie. It's not a call to conformity at all.
