I have no idea why this film isn't rated higher than it is. Some of the complaints have been really petty (like one person whinging about the opening scene).

It's a good movie, filmed well, has an interesting story, and great acting. I liked the blending of the surreal parts with the reality, and didn't mind that it blended a few different genre types. No, it wasn't edge-of-your-seat thrilling or tense, and it wasn't a scary or gory flick. Not all movies need to be those things to be good.

I agree. This movie is unique, visually and in concept, and it is too challenging for most people's spoon-fed minds.

Exactly. The cinematography was dreamy, and the movie had so many interesting, odd elements to it, for example, the hamster idea. It reminded me of other fantasy/myth/story-telling movies like The Life of PI or The Babadook. Not in the story lines themselves, but something about how they have inner stories.

I'm so glad I didn't pay attention to the reviews.

I agree. It had a whimsical, dreamy feel to it while an undercurrent of dark and sinister forces are at work, only slight but enough to imagine all is not as it seems.

I give 7/10.

I'd give it a real 8 but gave it a 10 on Imdb.

(Can I admit something? I overrate movies I like that other people hate as a kind of counter-balance.)

Oh, agreed. I admit I tip the score up if it's under-rated. Especially if not many people have seen it or it's a small studio movie. When I don't like a movie, I give them the score they deserve, though, and then leave a warning note in the message boards.

I think this one was a solid 8.

This is such a childish way of rating films and demonstrates that you think the world revolves around you, and therefore every movie should reflect your feelings/opinion alone and only your personal rating matters. If you think it was an 8, give it an 8 as the ratings system works best when people honestly rate the films rather than trying to skew the rating to fit their own opinion of films.

Woop woop its da imdb police! People can and will rate movies however they like, as you said its their opinion not yours.

This movie is legit, definitely closer to an 8 imo.

At first I didnt know if I liked it or not, and it also had some very cheesy moments. But at the end I was crying and it had tons of heart for such a damn sad story. Fantastic, very underrated indeed.

Thank you for saying that. Anyone who has had a traumatic childhood probably figured it out from the beginning. Or had suspicions. I think it was a solid movie.

I was not sure if i want to watch this movie because the trailer is good , but the rate is very low . i saw your message so i saw it .
The bad thing about the movie that it's not interesting story at all , it's just the last part when we knew that his mom is the bad one because they didnt give us a suspicious scenes .
