The little boy "Louis" is THE most annoying brat ever.

is the Louis character as mind-numbingly irritating in the book as he is in the movie? having known who the villain of the film was when i watched the film i figured the movie will make me care about the little boy and want him to come out of the coma but not even 10 minutes into the film i wanted the little boy to stay in the coma forever. he's impossible to like or care about. i was rooting for the mom even though she was basically the villain.

can someone explain why they made Louis so detestable?

The only likeable character was Peter...

Don't know about the book, but I could barely stand him in the movie, oh my god...

I'm guessing he was autistic in some way, but yeah he was a bit annoying.

But I don't think he was as annoying as the brat from 'extremely loud and incredibly close'.

****Spoiler alert****

His mom had munchausen by proxy where a parent harms their child for attention to get sympathy from medical staff and others. So those accidents all his life growing up was because she was hurting him on purpose. He had been trained to just go along with it. That would mess with a child's head big time and the child would act out. His step dad knew this too, that is why she only wanted Louis to eat those candies she made because she obviously put something in them to make her son sick. The child had suffered physical and mental pain his whole life. This is why he loved his hamsters, but killed them, he does not know how to associate love without pain and was mimicking her. This is also why I think after having a weekend with his step dad full of love, he backstabs him by telling his mom about running into his ex to hurt him.

That's better than I could have stated. Knew she was unstable, but figured it was about attention. The magnitude was beyond. Actually had my hand on my mouth right around the reveal until the end. Starting to wonder if a certain relative suffers from this, although she harms self for people to feel sorry for her smh

reply

That's hilarious because I actually loved the kid and he made the movie for me!
