Remakes are coming

In a home market which puts out only a few movies every year, we will now face remakes.

anyway, hope it doesn't bomb, regardless I bet in 2 years no one will remember the remake.

Isn't there any worthy new story to tell and shoot? is it really necessary to remake classics in Portugal?

será que não há nenhuma nova historia a contar digna de ser filmada? será necessário um remake de um clássico?

aaannnd last weekend I watched it. Better than I thought it would be

so here goes the bad stuff without any spoiler:

1 - Miguel Guilherme (playing Evaristo) tries too hard to "talk and walk" like António Silva (the original actor). really at times it just becomes annoying instead of nostalgic or funny.

2 - As a Portuguese movie after the "Golden age of Portuguese Cinema" it does have the traditional couple of "tuga scenes" present in 90% of our movies...yup THOSE scenes, which is a bad thing since the original was funny without any of it and in this one they just come out of the blue with no justification...some people would call it "gratuitous".

3 - Too many loose ends at the...well...End. Some characters aren't at all developed (sadly), and with others we are left without any resolution.

4 - To a homage film ( as the director stated it) or as a remake (media advertised it) a couple of really good and iconic scenes were cut.

5 - Sadly this is the producer and director's fault since from the start it was said even by the actors they weren't trying to make a better movie. If you aren't shooting for the best result, don't bother trying, especially in a movie market as weak as the Portuguese.

BUT, this is just me pointing out what didn't work well (imo). In the end, it's a funny movie which entertains well enough. To be honest, I've paid to sit and go through worst Hollywood trash so, it's worth the bought ticket.

Go watch it and please forget the idea of watching the original before. It will only make some of my points (and probably others) pop out. Watch it after this one.

César Mourão, Aldo Lima and Dania Neto and even Manuel Marques made their characters solid. I would add Miguel Guilherme but his way of talking distracted me (see point 1)
