A Better "Outing Riley"

Saw this at the Seattle International Film Festival and I enjoyed it a lot. It did remind me of the film "Outing Riley" that came out a few years ago. Of course there've been many coming out films, but both of these movies were about adults who everyone believes is straight coming out and being more about the how the friends and family say it's fine, but have issues with it.

Fourth Man Out focuses more on friends reactions and Outing Riley more on family, but I got a similar vibe from both. Outing Riley wasn't bad, but I thought Fourth Man Out was better written and acted. And funnier.

I have not seen Outing Riley, but I really liked this one. Well acted, funny, touching, not maudlin or contrived (maybe just at the very end a little bit). One of the best gay-themed films I have seen recently.

I enjoyed this a lot better than Outing Riley. I didn't put in my review how good the acting was, but you're right. The characters came across completely natural even where the dialogue was poor, which was only a few places.

Let me know if you agree - I thought for his entire family and friends not to have a clue (supposedly), his mother's instant acceptance seemed a bit much to take. If you saw "Get Real" it seems pretty clear the mother had inklings, although the father was oblivious. Not knocking dads, I had a great one, but most dad's are not as in tune as moms!
