Is it annoyingly religious?

I really can't stand those types of shows... The ones where everyone just nods and agrees because it's "God!" You know the ones that pander to Christians/Catholics. I'll give it a try if it's not that type of show.

It is not the least bit religious. Think THE APOSTLE with Robert Duvall but even less so

He called you a little piece of chicken.

How is this christian in any way or form?

A morally-corrupt judge suffers a breakdown and believes God is compelling him onto a path of vigilante justice.

Only because it says "god"?

That has to be because everything else is very unchristian. And if there is a christian god he would be....christian so he can't compel anyone onto a path of vigilante justice :)

I am just as atheistic as anyone else but i truly think you could've thought a bit better before asking a obvious question.

Well a lot of the mainstream Catholics/Christians don't need another reason. For freaking sake a lot of them think all gays are going to hell because of a quote from Leviticus even though the church no longer even follows Leviticus (try to tell them that though and they pretend like they suddenly can't understand you or try to change the subject). That's the problem I see with most "mainstream" religious people.

They are entirely ignorant of their own religion and the sad part is someone like me, who believes in a final death and nothing more (I think a lot of people can't accept this so they need religion to make their lives have some sort of meaning, or need the belief that this life is just a stepping stone for something better to keep them going), knows way more about their religion than even they do!

Oddly enough, it was really well done. I'm surprised the reviews were so negative in the newspapers and magazines. But maybe that's to be expected with anything gritty that has religion somewhere in the front of it and isn't heavy on sex scenes.

I think you should try it out. You might like it.

I'm an Atheist, so as you can imagine, I was a little put off by the title, and the content, but trust me, even if you don't believe in God, and Jesus, you will really enjoy what this show has to offer, its superb drama, and very well written, stella cast, and performances, what's there not to love about this show?

reply

yeah, reminds of those movies with robots. everyone nodding and agreeing cause its robots!
also superheroes! again with the nodding...

annoying really.

There's a reason why religious groups are pissed off about this show. I mean that alone should give you an indication of how it is handled.

The main character is pretty unlikable in my opinion and just about everyone is using the name of God as a justification for their awful deeds.

At the end of the season I didn't like any of the characters except for the former White supremacist.

He's the one person who truly was trying to find God and redemption.
Because of it, he was being used.

Truly sympathetic and well acted character.

It's a revenge story. It's not a story about religion nor do they try to convert the viewer, although religion is a key plot point. I'm recommending it to my friends but being upfront that the first 7 episodes are kind of slow. The payoff is in the last 3 episodes.

It's not religious really, I'm agnostic and I liked it. It is never quite clear if there s a divine intervention going on, or if the judge is just crazy, getting info through hallucinations from his subconscious mind.

Also there is no real preaching, it's neutral, sometimes almost openly mocking religion. It has Ron Pearlman it.. I mean it's not more religious than Hellboy.
