Jodorowsky's Dune...

Let me start by saying this, I am a big fan of Richard Stanley and I definitely want to see this documentary. But, this looks too similar to Jodorowsky's Dune, which Stanley was also involved in. And, seeing as how this is a very similar idea for a documentary, doesn't this seem to be coming a little too soon after the other one? I still want to see it, but I'm just saying that the comparisons are bound to be made.

I could see that, but I'd recommend it still. The stories from the set are completely crazy, and while both movies were eventually made by other directors, the major difference is that Stanley's movie was actually started by him and then taken away from after just a few days of filming.

Plus, it doesn't matter to me if it's similar. I really enjoy these sorts of behind the scenes things, and especially in the 'what if' vain. I like the Terry Gilliam Lost in La Mancha movie, and I can't wait for The Death of Superman Lives. I think there is room for all of these documentaries if you interested in such things.

What was Richard Stanley's involvement in Jodorowksy's Dune?

reply

So what?

You're not going to watch a documentary about something you're interested in because you're afraid it won't be original enough?...

It's not like it's the same situation with the same details.

I do believe that you either didn't fully read what I wrote. Or completely misread what I wrote. Where did I state that I wouldn't be watching it? What I said was that the comparisons are bound to be made, particularly when you consider that Richard Stanley spent quite a bit of time on-screen as one of the participants of the other documentary.

Kind of odd that I would have already ordered a copy of the Blu-Ray for a movie that I supposedly have no intention in watching.

These documentaries on failed projects are all the rage now. One was just released that focused on the Tim Burton "Superman Lives" project....and another is in the works about the shelved Roger Corman produced "Fantastic Four" movie. Comparisons about similarities might be made, but it's nothing new in the terms of cinema. If two volcano movies....two White House invasion movies....and two CGI-insect movies can all come out in close proximity....then these kinds of documentaries can as well.

[Never trust anyone that posts on only one IMDB board.]

Or asteroids, etc, etc.

I'm still waiting for a Roar (1981) documentary. Wasn't the Corman movie only made to secure the rights for another decade? Would not have thought there was much interesting there, but will see if I can find it.

You can see a vhs of The Keep, a movie with an equally *beep* production. http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/screenshot.php?movieid=133086&position=9
