They force marriages of teen girls in Turkiye?

Good or bad?

Discuss.

reply

Bad, of course. People in general shouldn't be forced to marry someone they've never met/seen before, and for whom they have 0 feelings.

Saw Mustang today, too.

Fine, fine, I'll leave! But first I'm going to bother these peanuts! Hmm? Yes? Hmm? HMM?

Believe it of not I went to school with a girl here in the US that was forced into an arranged marriage. In Ohio. She didn't dare go against her family & traditions. One foot in our new world one foot in the old world.

Doesn't seem to be a better alternative. First of all in the West most of these girls would have been chopped up in the abortion clinic, the surviving ones would live like unpaid prostitutes, begging for charity from the government and raising their kids on their own or dying alone.

Must be like a defecating hellhole where you live. I have never seen anything as bleak and abject as that around here.

How is this a discussion? Forced marriage is a human rights violation . . . so very very very bad. The End.

reply

Are arranged marriages necessarily forced marriages? If not, it is unhelpful to conflate them.

It's illegal in here. Marriage without signature is not allowed and religious institutions such as mosques and churches do not allow any couple without official papers for ceremony.

There are few examples like this. Father arranges someone to marry his daughter.
Hopefully, we will end this and bring equal rights to both women and men like back in 1930's.

I think everybody is carefully tiptoeing around the uncles sexual abuse, which in my opinion is the real reason why their grandmother is in such a hurry to marry them off. There is not much else she can do to protect the girls and save their future.

If it's `"arranged" by definition it's coerced or forced. You're only free if your parents don't say anything at all.

i'm an Albanian living in Greece and i can tell you it still happens, at least in my village. maybe it's not that common that they marry two people without ever meeting each other(it still happens though), but most of the time they force two teens once they found out they're dating. it's a facking tradition slowly dying but we still have a long way to go.
