Do they do anything wrong or even illegal here?

In this documentary, about weird happenings in people's basements, do they do anything wrong or even illegal here, like maybe slavery or money laundering of some or other type of activity, or are they, however strange, all acting within the bounds of the law AND human morality here, even though this documentary, aimed at adults, does depict perhaps (maybe S&M like activities) some really adult doings of various varieties.

And on the quality side, to those of you who have seen it, how good is it?

If you were doing something illegal in your basement, you would have to be pretty dim to invite a camera crew in to document it...

reply

Hahaha, true, but then again, lot's of documentaries have been made perhaps on people doing shady things and later being caught and found guilty perhaps, and maybe they still didn't face any legal consequences for it.

Also, RogueDemonHunter, have you seen "In the Basement", what did you make of it?

reply

I have not. Today is the first I've heard about it but it looks interesting so I will check it out.

I've seen a few films of its director Ulrich Seidl, "Dog Days" (2001) and "Import/Export" (2007), "Import/Export" being so far my favourite and look forward to checking out most of his other works and one day I will get to it, he is an interesting filmmaker.

After having watched this documentary, I have to say...

Although not QUIET err "illegal", it does have at least ONE segment where, for example, the man's interests are, for one, could be highly unpopular with certain groups of people. It being - he has a painting or a picture of Adolf Hitler in his basement and related decorative items. And whilst not quite illegal in a direct sense, it actually did put him on some sort of police list.

Also. One woman who although is into S&M claims that she used to live with someone who abused her and for that he got imprisoned for a couple of years.

Some stuff isn't illegal but its somewhat strange and all.

So to answer my question, for the very MOST part - no. But one segment references something that used to be done that was illegal and one person has something unpopular for which he got into a police list but other than that, mostly not. Even S&M adult stuff is legal there overall. And unlike one example, doesn't in any way cross lines into "abusive" territories. And I suppose if someone claimed they're tired and want out, they could respectably and possibly without the need of law aid.
