This movie was a box office bomb. I GUARANTEE it's due to marketing

I love Lonely Island. I'm a HUGE, REALLY BIG fan of them. And I didn't know this movie existed until, one day, seemingly at random, I decided to go and see if they'd released any new funny song on their Youtube channel. (I found Finest Girl this way: SO FREAKING GOOD)

But anyway, back to the point. Even after listening to Finest Girl and falling in love with it immediately, I STILL didn't quite know I was watching something from a movie.

It wasn't until the next DAY that I realized there was a Lonely Island movie, and that it had already been out -- for months!

I can't help but wonder if the reason why people didn't see this movie is NOT because it didn't "sell well" (as in, people passed on it), but because nobody even knew they'd come out with anything.

The marketing just didn't penetrate the 2016 election, I guess. I never heard a peep about it until I found out about it by accident. I wonder if having "Lonely Island" in the title would've made it do better. Who knows now in hindsight though, right?

I came as liking Sanberg from "Brooklyn 99" and "That's My Boy". I never came to him as a fan from his digital SNL shorts, or even SNL (which I gave up on years ago). But I knew the film existed, and even that Lonely Island exsited and this was one of their films, ahead of release even. i just was not all that big a fan of Sanberg to really want to try and catch this in the theater.

I decided today at random just to finally give it a watch.. and am enjoying it quite a bit. There's just enough of real life satire in there that yo can get where the inspiration is coming from. In terms of a satiricing/parody musical biopic, i still say Walk Hard is a much stronger, funnier film. But I am definitely considering buying a copy of this one.

i have to say though I do think the only explaination for the film failing has to be done to a lack of promotion.. Even at worst? this film easily should have done 50 Million. That's at the possible worst, although I'm not sure when it came out.. but I have a feeling it came out and was buried under a much bigger title at the time. Always the risk in counter programming of much bigger titles. It's too bad too, the flick definitely deserved to make more than it did.
