Not amazing but still entertaining


That's how I feel with Hark Tsui's The Taking of Tiger Mountain.
There are sparks of inspiration in its action sequences but the plot that serves as a glue for its pieces to stick together is pretty weak.
The result is a film that's always on the verge of being mediocre (with strange dose of propaganda) and not quite hitting the genre's high marks.
Well, with all that said, I still found plenty to enjoy here.
Tony Leung's performance is always watchable and particularly entertaining here.
As mentioned above, the action sequences are what you'd expect of Tsui.
It's not particularly memorable but you won't be bored while it lasts.
