No Subtlety

Granted, I haven't read Macomber's books, so it might have stayed close to the plot, but I do love the Mrs. Miracle movies and watch them every Christmas. The beauty of those movies is that you don't really know if she's an angel or just really good at helping people (similar to The Good Witch series, and also the reason I love those). This wasn't a bad movie, but I missed the "Is he or isn't he?"
vibe. It's spelled out in clear detail from the first scene that he is an angel and what his mission is and the consequences if he fails. Takes some of the sweetness and magic out of it by hitting you over the head with every detail from the start.

Poor Rob Morrow... Whoever directed this was shortsighted.. His character got on my nerves and the story left little to even care about.

reply

Ditto that...he irritated my wife & I so much that we turned it off after only 15 min. Maybe it improved, but it wasn't worth enduring his role.

He seemed to be channeling Dustin Hoffman's character in Mr. Magorium's Magic Emporium. And not in a good way.

I totally agree. I like the previous Macomber adaptations, but 15 minutes into this one I was scratching my head at the goofy character Rob Morrow (a decent actor) was playing. Doesn't even know about sitting in a chair or paying for coffee and he's posing as a TEACHER? The mentor was like 'oh well, you'll figure it out'. I was hoping Doris Roberts would pop thru the door and say 'just kidding, I'm taking over'.
Quickly changed channels.

Agree. This was awful due to rob morrow's character. I couldn't stand him. To the other posters; NO it didn't get better. I left it on for my son who loved the previous miracle films. I didn't want to watch it though. He talked so strangely. Also, Mrs miracle knew how to cook and do everything so why was he so "challenged"?
Also didn't like that they showed the angels as well. It reminds me of those other angel Xmas movies. Angels are coming to town ?

Rob Morrow got very bad direction in this movie. I certainly hope it was not his idea to channel a stereotype of a mentally challenged adult. Weird sqweeky voice, socially inappropriate reactions, the grimaces, squinting, etc. All very distracting ans almost offensive. Very disappointed in this Macomber adaptation.

I liked the movie and saw Mr. Morris' portrayal as a novice. He could make mistakes because he didn't understand the consequences. I didn't like the product placement and took abstractly for that.
I get what you like though. What you like in Christmas movies. I read a review, where the reviewer lumps movies as wishful (Angels, etc.) and fantasy (Sanat Claus). He enjoys the wishful more.

Does Rob always have a problem with his hands? He seemed to be pointing with his hands up a lot.

reply

Not that I've noticed from other roles. I think it's for this character only. Since I bought the Angel, the hands didn't bother me.

I always take Mrs Miracle to be an angel in her movies. The way she just disappears into thin air at the end. The Good Witch is definitely human.

Never could bear to watch too much of this movie. This "Mr. Miracle" reminded me too much of Alan Cumming's Loki from Son of the Mask(Jeez =.=!), especially after the late Doris Roberts' Mrs. Miracle - her character was a true and legit Angel character, with authentic powers to influence Fate, while him... had thought Mr. Miracle character would be Mrs. Miracle's husband, or even a wise, old gentleman... boy.

And I dunno Nora Allen's deal; the moment she said "divine intervention" the entire mystical sense of it all disperses. Mrs. Miracle never revealed her divine nature, which, in turn, made her more divine. Him... not so much.

Maybe the Angels ought to demote him to a mortal and live out a few decades before recalling him back to service...

We can't all be wrong. Almost every post is saying the same thing about this film. The characters were annoying. There was no feel good moments along the way instead you kept wondering why should you care about the Addie or Mr Miracle? If it weren't for the music and decorations, you'd never know this is a Christmas movie. It should not be work to get through a Hallmark holiday film. But that's just what it felt like to watch this. It also didn't help that the lead character ,Addie, facial expression was as if she were sucking on a lemon the entire film.
