Were these zombies "aware"?

When the control room was overrun, one of the zombies seemed to be familiar with Valerie Wilton (leader of the facility). The zombie pointed her out.

She was also the zombie that was on display during the welcoming party. I wonder did the zombie know her, or just knew how evil she was and wanted to put the bite on her.
