hi,

i don't understand what the un (blue cap) protected there ? just houses, farm ? there were no civilian on the battle field !

does that battle place was the door of the city we saw in the beginning (bar scene, market, shop..etc) ?

if i was a red cap, i would avoid that place and went directly to the city ! why boring kill the blue caps !? lost of time ?

concerned with its image.

The Irish peacekeepers were supposed to be protecting the local citizens (well, the white ones really) but the truth was the vast majority of the locals neither needed nor wanted their protection. The locals, as stated by the "Madame", were happy the socialist who wanted to nationalize the local industries had been eliminated & the for-profit mining etc jobs would continue.

The piece of earth they were stationed on was pointless. It was far from any town. It seemed to be just some sort of valley / plain on a main road.

It was just the typical UN screw-up.

Yep. SOP for the stupid UN.

The real battle took place very near the city, and it was more built up than the movie indicates. The movie was filmed in South Africa, and the real Jadotville (now called Likasi) doesn't look like it did back in 1961.

The population of Jadotville was at best indifferent towards the UN, and the mercenearies were there to capture the UN soldiers, to be used as bargaining chips during the peace process. This is explained in the movie.
