Mormon religion

It's quite obvious that prophet from Utah in last night's episode is a Mormon. But now I wonder if the Mormons were behind the massacre of the wagon train settlers in the first episode as in the 1857 Mountain Meadows massacre in Utah.

By the end of episode 8 it is clear that the man travelling north is a liar about pretty much everything, to the point i would question if he is even from Utah. Implying being a Mormon would somewhat make sense if you are living then and there and seeking satisfaction from many young women. If the man travelling north had been a legitimate Mormon then i suppose it would make sense to wonder if something like the Mountain Meadows Massacre happened in the show. Or perhaps the subtext is "all Mormons are lying sex addicts" and you are on to something here about the death of the menfolk. The one thing i know for sure about Strange Empire is that it is indeed strange.

He could be a self-styled Mormon such as Brian David Mitchell who kidnapped Elizabeth Smart.

The first episode massacre is clearly John's crowd from the beginning. This is confirmed multiple times throughout the show.
