Hypnotic

Two shows in and I'm hooked. Strange Empire is dark, moody, and hypnotic. Cara Gee in particular is fantastic as the kick-ass Métis Kat. Can't wait to see next week's episode.

Yeah, Dr. Rebecca is a very interesting character. Melissa Farman is really good in the role. And I find Isabelle (Tattiawna Jones) a much more interesting and complex character than expected. Along with Cara Gee, who's absolutely mesmerizing, the show has 3 very interesting women characters as leads.

Episode 4 was just incredible and from the previews, Episode 5 looks to be just as great. Can't wait.

i'm so happy when there are other people who like it cause most people don't. they don't even give it a chance...which is such a pity.
all characters are well-constructed
i have to agree with you- Isabelle's character is very complex more than i expected ,too, just like all of the 3 main characters.
still,my absolute favorite is Dr Rebecca ...
can't explain why her,but she has something about her, that i like.

I also really liked the eldest of the adopted daughters. She would have grown interestingly in future seasons!
But really I enjoyed a great many of the characters.

***So I've seen 4 movies/wk in theatre for a 1/4 century, call me crazy?**

I'm happy as well to see that other people enjoyed Strange Empire. Other disliked the show, because many Canadians can't watch a homegrown TV show with an open mind. Secondly, these same people assume in advance that a Canadian TV show or feature has to be subpar to its American counterpart.

If I leave that opinion aside, I had some reservations with the slow pace. First, the first two episodes only focuses on the tragedy, meaning the disappearance of most men, and then the aftermath. It's only by the third episode that the three leading ladies - Kat, Isabelle and Rebecca - start to plunge into their own story arcs.

After spending about two episodes bitching against Captain Slotter, Kat starts to investigate about the disappearance of the men with a more rational mind. Besides Slotter, one of the episodes suggest that there might be more suspects. Isabelle displays her complexity by playing behind her husband's back in order to maintain his control over Janestown. As for Rebecca, she tries to makes some sense out of the schemes from the other leading ladies.

All in all, this is not the usual TV series from a TV network.

"Strange Empire" was a recommendation from Netflix. I started to watch Episode 1 on my Galaxy phone last night at about 10pm, binge watched the next 3 episodes. I wanted to continue watching E5, but at 3am, I had to put the phone down if I wanted to be worth 1/2 a damn today. That being said, I think I'm gonna be binge watching the rest of Season 1 today.

Was this show renewed?
