Is the guy getting it on with Dr. Rebecca really a girl.
'He' is on the short side and has quite an asexual look about him.
I've wondered the same thing - to the point of looking at the Adam's apple, which is not prominent. I think I saw long hair from a reverse shot. Wouldn't surprise me if the love interest turned out to be a woman. It would be familiar, almost a cliché. Which so far seems to be the show's stock-in-trade.

I couldn't remember the characters name though so I couldn't check.
I also partly wanted to wait until my suspicion was confirmed in the show but no matter.
One of the only interesting subplots so far.
I also came looking at IMDb, not because of his height but because his face looked too dirty, like someone was using dirt as a beard.
I also noticed how calm the inclusion of a female to male transsexual in Strange Empire was compared to when Deadline.com reported The CW was looking to develop a show about a teenage female to male transsexual generated hundreds of hostile comments. Some things really do differ @ 49th.

Trans*sexual was not a lifestyle thing back then. Women were murdered and excommunicated on the whims of males. Disguising oneself as a male was a survival strategy in a crazy world.

Yep, picked up a quick clue when the two were together and a,(cough-cough), real man was needed, the "lad" quickly made up a reason to leave.
Great series, not the best in acting but not bad either.

Of course this is a female. There was never any doubt about that. I am often amused at how easily duped some people are by superficial trappings.

01. Cuttlebones, I am not sure what the condition is called medically, but I think that the character DR. Rebecca Blithely is a psychopath, disassociated from normal human experiences, which seem to be all the same to her. She has to be watched and directed, or she gets fascinated with things like cutting into flesh whether for good or bad. She's an experimenter.
02. When Morgan Finn kissed Rebecca and gave her an orgasm, Rebecca was more in analysing the changes in her body as she experienced sexual pleasure for the first time. The thought of a a true romantic and sexual relationship never occurred to her. Finn is experiencing unrequited love. Miss Logan offers a real relationship to Finn, but Finn doesn't wake up until she sees Dr. Rebecca torturing Captain John Slotter to death on her table. She is absolutely shocked and horrified. I think that ended her crush on the Doc. Miss Logan was the better choice.
03. Morgan Finn, though, represents a percentage of the Wild West woman who cross-dressed to protect themselves from rape and other unwanted unsolicited physical advances by unscrupulous men. In Finn's case, she may have felt safer and had her romantic and sexual needs met better with woman. Finn, though, I think was Gay in natural disposition.
04. Also, Male hygiene was not at it's best, with the grime from the mines and less bathing. Drinking heavily, with the reek of rot-gut booze, tobacco, sweat and still wearing their filthy work clothing, by the end of the day men could become unruly with women. Not a big turn-on for women, I imagine. Only the pros. would service such men, rightly being paid to do dirty jobs with unbehaved slobs. So was their society.
Mitchmuse, did you not pay attention while watching the show? Rebecca didn't torture John Slotter. She tortured the bounty hunter who raped Morgan.
