Not what I expected.

When I first saw this I expected some thing of a Western with a supernatural undertone.
But no it's just your straight western style period piece and it's conception is pretty soft unlike 'Hell on Wheels' or 'Deadwood'.
I'll struggle on with it for a little while.

Initially I felt similarly.

Strange Empire seemed a little slow paced; however, I am into it now and am enjoying observing the story-lines play out. I think that it might be better or more widely received however if most of the main characters were predominantly male since that's what we're used to.

Gritty, hard-hewn strong female leads aren't the focus of most western-styled television shows we've been presented with thus far.

This is an excellent pioneering television program in that regard.

You sound like sexist *beep* who never thinks twice about women. And all the other imbecile's out there you don't know how to rate a movie, all you used to is predictable idiotic movies and tv shows

I may be wrong but I think you may have taken AverageMoviegoer's post the wrong way. He seems to like the show and points out that it's an excellent pioneering television show because of the strong female characters. I believe he's correct that we haven't so many strong female leads in a Western before and he may be correct that in terms of mass appeal, it may have done better with male leads instead. Saying this doesn't mean that he agrees that it should be this way, however. I took it more as an observation of what does well right now rather than what should do well. Just my 2ยข.
