SPOILER: Madeline's storyline

Why on earth are they making Madeline have an extramarital affair?? In the book she is completely happy with Ed - REALLY not pleased about this change to the storyline! :(

LAST SEEN: The Good Dinosaur (9/10) / The Danish Girl (6/10) / Secret In Their Eyes (8/10)

reply

I totally agree. I really enjoyed Madeline and Ed's relationship in the book, it's unfortunate the team behind this series have decided to go another direction. What a shame.

Who is playing Madeline? Where did you get this information from? Any changes must be well thought of i wud assume.

reply

Reese is playing Madeline.

According to the Deadline article:

Santiago Cabrera plays Joseph Bachman: He runs the local Monterey theatre company and has an extramarital affair with Madeline (Witherspoon)

reply

Dang. :( Maybe they will re-think that mistake.

reply

That's a terrible idea. Madeline's story was perfect the way it was written in the book.

I know I'm a vampire, Snookie.

reply

I'm disappointed too since it would unnecessarily change the dynamic of not only Madeline's arc but the story as a whole in my opinion. Rarely is a movie or TV project faithful to the source material. Do not be surprised if the limited series differs greatly from the book when comes to storylines, character personalities, etc.

No one is more suited for this job than myself...unless it's someone else.

reply

The book is so perfect they shouldn't have messed with it by changing that! I was wondering how they would stretch the story out into 8 episodes though, so maybe they had to make stuff up to make it long enough. Also, maybe they wanted Reese Withersppon's role to be "meatier."

reply

It's mandatory for Witherspoon to star in something Vallée directed and be a cheater.

100 Years Of Pure Beauty

reply

Really? Was she in Young Victoria? Or Dallas Buyers Club? How many projects have they done together that you seem to create a pattern as silly as this one?

reply

I think they could easily do all 8 episodes keeping it completely faithful to the books. The book is definitely long and complex enough to pull it off.

I COMPLETELY agree!!!!

reply

Is it true they're focusing on a different persons story each episode? Is the cast and # of episodes their in accurate? Lots of the actors are only listed as being in 1.

reply

Hopefully they see how upset the book readers are and they end up cutting it

reply

lol yeah because the last thing they want is "upset" book readers bitching all over social media, and hyping the show for free.

As long as you morons don't understand that you're doing their job for them when you rant and rave online against something, and that any publicity is GREAT publicity, you'll keep getting trolled by studios and networks.

reply

That is a horrendous idea. Madeline is not perfect, but she is shown to feel very strongly about standing up for people who she feels have been wronged (including herself ), so having her cheating on her steady, nice husband who is devoted to her dilutes that moral conviction a lot.

reply

Seriously? I didnt know that. Madeline has a perfect storyline in books. There is no need to complicate her character. I hope the article turns out to be rumor or i hope they changed the idea in the final shoots.

reply

Nooooo! What a horrible addition, and why?
