Screen so dark

I couldn't see most of the two hours. Good story and acting though.

I know what you mean, but I actually liked the fact that it was, for the most part, very dimly lit. I thought that gave it much more of an air of realism, as I doubt there was much artificial lighting (electric lights in houses, streetlights etc etc) around London in those days. I felt it showed the producers, set dressers etc had gone the extra mile to make it more believable.

Re the acting - all superb and, as usual, Paddy Considine proved that he really is one of the finest actors in Britain today. I can watch anything he is in and know that it will be worth watching.

I'm with Martin on this. I noticed that the interior scenes were dark, but thought that this reflected how things were 150 years ago. It didn't worry me. I too thought that Paddy Considine was excellent.

I am just watching this - courtesy of ITV Encore - and agree 100% with Martin. I think the lighting is apt for the period setting and is sometimes quite stunning, for example, when Mr Whicher is on the stairs and realises who has taken the boys. The series, as a whole, has been excellent and I wish more were made. This was quality TV.
