Vague Ending!?!

There are too many loose ends when the movie ends. Ali and Nick have been to the beach. He keeps an engagement ring by the sink, for convenience in protecting their relationship when they go out but her biological clock is ticking away while she was so passionate about committing to a partnership, love and parenthood, and is not yet married to the man??? But, she also has a Christmas Card from Nick and Lila! Is she back in her apartment she'd shared with Cameron that she vowed she'd be out of prior to his return from Aspen? For all of the non-cliche script I was hoping for something better than a fade-out ending.
