I really like this show a lot..however there

Is something wrong with the set up of the problems that Jessie encounters...the brother knows he understands little to nothing about the world's social interactions..to Jesse, they are like most of us trying to hack into the highest level of security at the....well,anything...

So while Jesse's genius lies in math related issues computor science etc, that would leave us wholly perplexed and shutdown...This is Jesse in the real world..yet his bro who loves him tremendously, leaves him to the wolves...the only analogy I can think of is that if the Internet exploded in your face anytime you made a mistake...well this is Jessie alone in the world..AND WE KNOW IT...

So then we know how stupid it is for the bro to leave him alone..FOR ANY REASON....it is one of those writer contrived things that drive me nuts!!! They have to be able to put Jessie in the harm or trouble the character needs to further the story without making the bro look like he continually abandoned him! It isn't something he would do considering the rest of his character...he is a good guy who loves his bro and had sacrificed a lot to keep him safe..now especially he is in terrible danger and he keeps, leaving him alone???????

What is that?..I'm only on season one episode 4,,,he just got beat up after drinking alone in a bar....ALONE IN A BAR....Why not just give him a loaded weapon weapon that fires when you say the wrong thing in a social situation...like we know Jesse will do???

Maybe there is something to explain this odd behavior I'm not aware of..if they gave his bro a reason for doing this ..alcoholism...fed up..going to work isn't enough...the rest,of the story is so good...the writers have this frat story to tell and they can't put Jesse in harm, can't find tension and diversion without making his bro look like a totlal idiot. I don't thing that is there reason for doing this...I think it is just convenient.

As you've probably found out by now, Jesse does eventually get his hands on a gun and . . . . he isn't exactly sure how to make a correct decision.

Jesses exist in real life, though rarely. Their caregivers cannot be on 24/7 duty, just as Ned portrays it. They go to college -- I have had several in my classes. They are an 'interesting' situation for a professor: how much do I help, how often do I just need to let the student flounder . . . there are no answers. They are frustrated, perplexed, demanding, sometimes witty about their circumstances, and heart-renching.

The Code is an extreme situation, and the episodes we see are during a crisis for both brothers. Ned has never figured out a balance between caregiving and independence, and neither has Jesse. And then it all implodes. Few of us get caught up in hacking, and covert operations -- none of us would know what to do any better than Ned.

Have you seen The Bank? Some of the same people, same POV. These Aussies have a unique approach to thrillers: humane and semi-plausible.

reply

No,but I'll check it out...I love the Aussies and British tv and movies a lot...I have this "Acorn" streaming that is all Brit..I run it turn roku.for under $5.00 a month...so I'll see if I can find it there.
Where did you catch it?

reply

Either Netflix or Amazon streaming -- then I bought DVD. I was thinking it was 2007, but they produced it in 2001. They saw the 2008 bank crisis way before it happened.

Aussie and Brit TV/films have an intelligent complexity. Characters still do stupid things, but not for lack of trying. US film/TV is focused on money, not humans.

I'll look up the Acorn streaming. Good to know.

If you can take the time, please recommend a few other films/shows.

The forced romance ruined Murdock Mysteries for me. Two characters couldn't be more mismatched. And people who've read the books, I haven't, say they're not a couple in the books. I was happy when she left and had to quit watching when she came back.
