This show tries way too hard

I don't know who they're trying to appeal to, but it falls flat on every attempt. From the art to the dialogue, it's nothing but gag after gag that never works. I've seen people comparing it to Archer, which is obvious after watching it, but it just doesn't have the same feel to it. Archer has interesting characters and (mostly) well-written dialogue. Moonbeam City just hopes they can be funny every second but just never manages to pull it off. It's only been one episode, which is usually too early to tell, but in this case I'm going to say it's not going to make it to a second season.

To Archer's credit the jokes on top of jokes in that show worked there because some are subtle enough that you don't even catch them the first time (much like Arrested Development which shared much of the same cast) and so it didn't feel desperate or forced. Also Archer had no shortage of great characters. This show what so far feels like a copy of Sterling (Dazzle), Barry (Rad) and Cheryl (Chrysalis..which even sounds like a fake name that Cheryl would've picked for herself) character from that show.

I'm hoping like with the Archer pilot, this was just a case of the first episode only scratching the surface of who these characters are (Cheryl, Pam, Kreiger and Cyril became much more fleshed out as the season went on and made that show even better) and this was just them trying to set up the premise before they fully develop the characters. I don't think it will ever be as great as Archer but with some better writing it could make for a fun timewaster.

They're trying the *Throw everything at the wall and see what sticks* method.
But the wall is Teflon.

Very badly written. Jokes are not funny from minute one. None of the dialogue is clever or witty. I was bored halfway through the first episode and started doing something else.

The animation style is wasted on this crap.

I'm giving this show a chance for the time being due to Titmouse and Tommy Blancha working on it.

Desperate attempt at being hip, cool, and edgy that fails miserably.

The art and music, especially the music, is amazing. The writing is, well, very bad in comparison. This is probably the most disappointing show on air right now.
