I'm reminded of a story the screenwriter Robert Towne told about pushback he received for the profanity-filled script for The Last Detail, in particular the heavy use of a certain word (similar to "rooster sucker"). His point was that the characters in The Last Detail used this word as a grotesque display of power, but what it showed about them was that they were powerless.
Tales of the Grim Sleeper is a story about people who are powerless.
I just watched The Seven Five about NYCPD and it sounded like if Andrew Dice Clay did a patch-up job on Goodfellas or something. Lot's of four letters words (the F mainly) slung about every sentence. It was interesting to see that both movies had people in different coasts & different works of life both having this in common.
