Dead of Winter Ep -What about the couple who said the guy got kidnapped?

That part of the story line went un-answered. The husband and wife said 3 guys in a van dragged the dude - Marvin the Mummy - away but it seems his killer acted alone.
Any clarification appreciated ...

I still have that episode on a DVR, so I just re-watched that part to verify things.

After the couple saw the story about Marvin the Mummy, they contacted police again, telling them the hitchhiker they'd picked up [years?] earlier exactly matched Marvin's description, including his clothes; they told police the hitchhiker was heading to Kahoka, which is a very small town in Missouri. So the police printed up flyers and went to Kahoka and interviewed tons of people...all for nothing. They end up back at the beginning, with no idea who Marvin is.

I think what they forgot to do was tell us that, in the end, it was purely coincidence that a hitchhiker--who matched Marvin so closely--was abducted by three guys, i.e., it wasn't Marvin and had nothing to do with this case.

Thanks. I was wondering about the same thing. :)

Thanks for your insights. Like others, I was curious to know what happened with the hitchhiker who was abducted... I'm still curious and would like to know if police ever determined who he was and what happened to him. It's rather bugging me to not know.

I'd like to know, too. They should realize that when they toss something out there like that, and it turns out to be a red herring, they need to let us know about its details or outcome or...whatever. Sure, it turned out that it had nothing to do with Marvin's case, but once they've shown us some part of it, they ought to wrap it up, you know?

This bugs the heck out of me, too!!! Obviously a false lead, but incredible coincidence that not only did the general physical description match, but right down to wearing t-shirt, ripped jeans, and stocking feet in winter! Then to give the exact name of some tiny town right down the road, yet no one there knew who he could be! The couple could have been lying, but then how do you explain their police report of a kidnapping six months to a year before "Marvin" ever turned up, and then not going to the detectives seeking to identify "Marvin" till long after he was found? This would be the first thing the investigators looked into, that such a report was filed, and if so the kidnapping must have occurred. So is anyone looking to identify this guy? Since I can't find anything further about it I have contacted the authorities!

This episode is on my DVR again, so I'm going to re-watch it later today. You're absolutely right that it was *SO* coincidental as far as the man the couple picked up. More later...

Add my thanks to the others. Just finished watching this episode, had the same WTH question, and hit IMDB to find out.

Funny, they just had a generic message board for the series and your post was one of the few here - and that specifically identified the question. (cue Twilight Zone music). 😁
