Terrible because James Gunn wrote it by himself

James Gunn fought Nicole Perlman (the first female scriptwriter for a Marvel film) for sole writing credit on the Guardians of the Galaxy script.

Marvel let Gunn write Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 by himself (maybe to start positioning Gunn as their new Joss Whedon) and the results were, IMO, mostly saccharine, self-indulgent and dumb.

THANK YOU! I know I'm replying to a 3 year old post but I don't care. lol

I genuinely agree with you, wholeheartedly.

The first film had a really good balance. They knew when to cut a joke & where to put a joke. This was just an overload & just painfully unfunny most times.

You know like when they "overdo a gag" on Family Guy "for laughs". The jokes on this felt like that

I'm in full agreement. I loved the first one, but this misses a lot. Also, I hate nepotism. His brother was fine, but he didn't need to be in it.

reply

Omg, I completely forgot about him. Didn't care for his character. Don't know why they gave him such a "bigger" role compared to the first one. Oh right, nepotism. Unnecessary character

I liked 2 things in this more than the first one. Firstly, The Villain. Thought Ego was a better antagonist than Ronan. And secondly, the development of both Yondu & Nebula. Did NOT care for them in the first film.

But as a whole, the first film, which I rewatched last night, is far superior than this.

For sure with the villain. Ronan sucks. I didn't like the actor in The Hobbit either. Something about him.

I'm gonna be honest, didn't care for any of the characters in The Hobbit trilogy. Maybe Smaug. Yeah, I was rooting for Smaug. 😅

The first movie was ok at best. I loved LOTR. Its very odd PJ fucked up the Hobbit so bad.

My friends who've read the books & stuff keep saying this & I completely agree, it should have been 2 movies max.

But you know Peter Jackson, love the dude but he unnecessarily loves to drag sh*t out. By the third film, I genuinely didn't even care anymore.

I just kept looking at my watch, hoping someone would put me outta my misery. lol
