SPOILER: Why would a celestial care about waiting ~70 years?

If you are immortal and have been alive for over 100 million years, why would you care about waiting ~70 years for your wife to die, or your son's friends to die? This would have saved ego a lot of hassle.

To ego a human lifetime is the equivalent of a fleeting moment in his.

Hmm. That's a good point. Maybe Ego wanted to "bond" with Quill while the latter was still relatively young? Or he didn't want to be distracted from his glorious purpose by Quill's mother?

reply

Ego said that he's a god and he expressed his contempt for other life forms in the universe. So, imo a plausible answer to your question could be that he just doesn't give a shit. To him, such considerations could be less than trivial and, thus, not even worth thinking about. This appears to be a very common trait among supervillains.

As for the wife, I expect the issue was that he was afraid she'd make him forget of change his purpose. Which shows how much he knows about typical human family life!

As for getting Peter when he was young, the likeliest explanation is that he wanted to bond with him before he got killed. Or age may have had an affect on his ability to assume Ego powers, or his need for a parental figure. Really, you'd think he would have looked his up when he was younger, more malleable, and still afraid of being eaten by his companions.

He didn't want to lose his focus. If Starlord's mother stayed alive, he'd kept going back to Earth and eventually lose his connection witht the light. As for kidnapping Starlord, he didn't know that he carried the Celestial gene. He was just one of many that were deleivered to him and if Starlord didn't carry ir, he would have been killed.

reply

Your first point is very very good but why would Peter die if he is a celestial like his father? The reason his others kids were killed and died is because they didn't inherit his celestial gene like Peter did.
