"It's a Zune. It's what everyone on Earth is listening to nowadays."

Hahahahaha...

reply

The movie's got jokes. No question about that.

I'm trying to go for an engaging, funny youtube channel so, if you have the time, take a look. Hope you enjoy what you see. Thanks in advance. A review of the movie here-https://youtu.be/4yxQsi5ERi4

dedicated mp3 players are dead, everybody just uses their cellphones now

but you be surprised how beloved Zune HD was

reply

Apple is still dead to me for discontinuing the iPod Classic.

reply

4 year old post but agree on the ipod classic. I still have mine but I hate that I can't update it and add new songs anymore.

And I just watched this movie last night and never heard of a Zune...you're saying this thing actually existed?

reply

Haha is that an actual quote? Haven't seen it yet (going this weekend). Better prepare for a lawsuit from Microsoft...

reply

yesss, haha. classic reference. good stuff

reply

Surprisingly, no one laughed at this in my theatre.

reply

That's because it was filled with millennials and later that have no concept of 2006-2009.

Everyone over 25 laughed, but 80% of the cinema was packed with snotty kids....and rightly so, I find the series quite childish (I was forced to go along with my 4o something comic-nerd friends).

reply

You sound so fun.

Strange thing to say. My friends and I are all 33-40. No one laughed and the theater was all people around our age and older. In fact, there wasn't much laughing at all during the entire film. A few chuckles here and there, one or two LoLs.

Classic case of people not getting the jokes because they are not flying low enough for them. When he said millennials, he referred specifically to that particular jaded self-centered generation who has the culture of a goldfish, nourished by viral youtube videos and commercials, and anything else that their limited attention span can accommodate but they are not the only morons in the world, unfortunately.

Plenty of idiots who don't know enough to get a joke if it is above the waist, in the 33-40 generation as well.

You really typed that out and hit reply. I sure hope that is satire, for your sake.
LoL

reply

We got a lot of laughs here in Seattle, with lots of 'Softies around.

reply

'Softies?

reply

Yes... Micro...softies...get it?

Zune was the shit

I find it hard to believe Peter would have been so naive about pop culture on Earth. I'm assuming the aliens go to Earth all the time and would likely pick up gadgets from there all the time. They would obviously have better tech. Duh. This isn't meant to be a documentary, I'm just being silly, I'm well aware of what type of show this is.

thebricks is just being "silly," but there's a serious answer to this post:

Quill is perfectly capable of going back to earth whenever he wants. He just refuses to because his last earthly memory was his mother's death (and his refusal to take her hand).

For all they packed into "Endgame," it might've been worth showing Quill visiting his grandfather while on earth for Stark's funeral.

Just as touching: earth's tech is probably too primitive for the Ravagers to bother looting, which means Yondu would have to have made a special trip to earth just to get that Zune for Quill, knowing how much his "son" valued that Walkman

I really don't know any about Zune until this scene. I question myself "why didn'nt they use Ipod? What is Zune?" I guess Zune was never had a chance to become a thing in the country where I lived.

reply

It was never really a thing in the US either, no matter how much Microsoft wanted it to be. It was the Bing of music players.

reply

It was a nice reference I missed.

reply

Duh. They didn't use the Ipod because the joke was that Zune was *never* a thing. It was a massive failure that didn't even get the chance to raise to the Ipod level of fad.

That's what makes the joke funny.

reply

That's what makes the joke funny.
And it is also what makes movies crossing cultural and international borders and boundaries so difficult.

Wayne's World's infamous "SCHWING" doesn't have an equivalent in every language nor mass market SNL reference. Not everyone is going to "get" a Jackson Pollack joke when they don't even know who Jackson Pollack is.

I chuckled at Zune and my wife had no idea what the joke was. Having to explain it made it worse, just like on this board.

"Why is THAT funny?"

reply

Yep.

reply

Because an ipod will break down in a few months using your hd space while a zune will last decades without a need to go to the repair shop.
