[SPOILERS] Questions & Flaws

- Marjorie

How big is the chance you meet a Japanese girl who's name is Marjorie?
I've been twice in Japan, but I never met any girls with Western names..

- The Bureau

Marjorie said she was from the bureau..
What kind of bureau? A babysitting bureau?
And if so.. what gives her the right to investigate who filed in the divorce between Sam & Anna?

- The market

Jamie and Sam are talking on the market.
Jamie says to Sam "For all I know, you're the reason why she killed herself."
The pilot Ravi Sharma coincidentally hears them talking and introduces himself with
"Miss Waters. I'm Ravi Sharma"..

1. How the hell does he know her name?
2. How big is the chance that you meet an another English speaking personin your immediate vicinity on the Singapore market and not even a Japanese person?

- Josh Lim

Jamie is at the scene when Josh 'kills himself', but she doesn't calls the police.

- The dinner

Jamie shows Sam a video about a dinner Anna had with friends.
They use a tablet as a Ouija board.. I really laughed hard about it.
Spirits communicating through technology?

- Katie's bedroom

Katie gets attacked by the ghost/demons, she screams her lungs out.

The next morning Same walks into the room to wake up Katie (I assume).
He walks to the window and sees her sitting outside, when he turns around he suddenly notices that the bed has vanished.

1. How is it possible that no one hears her?
2. How could Sam not notice the missing bed when he entered the room?

- The telescope

After Sam walked into Katie room to search for her, he apparently walks to the basement, and we see the telescope suddenly in the basement while it was just barely a minute or two earlier still in Katie's room.

When he's turning around after watching through the telescope he sees Leviathan for real..
He runs out of the house to escape with Katie.
So the demon just let him go without attacking or following him? Seriously?

- The T–V distinction

Isn't it considered extremely rude and impolite to call someone by his first name if you don't know the person yet? (unless the stranger is a teenager)

Jamie does it twice, at May's house and at Josh's workplace.

- The hanging (Sam)

When Sam is hanging on the ceiling, we see the noose is still wide enough to get his head out.
Yet he has a hard time getting out.. the knot was even terribly knotted.

- The exorcism

1. Not all priests are being commissioned to work as exorcists, so how big is the chance you'd find a priest who is commissioned in the same city, being at the right place at the right time?

2. A priest cannot conduct an exorcism without the express permission of the diocesan bishop in whose territory the exorcism is to take place.
Here he did not ask any permission

3. Father James de Silva wasn't even allowed to do the exorcism, because his faith wasn't strong.
He even said it himself (@ the 01:03:00 point):

"My faith is not as strong as you may think"

Which makes him vulnerable for the demon.

4. A priest should have at least someone on his side (bishop/priest/deacon) during an exorcism for exactly the reason Father James de Silva was killed.

5. A demon does not care for normal (non-baptized/non-believing) humans, so they shouldn't have been able to finish it.. especially because they didn't have holy water.

6. What does Jamie use to expel the demon?

And worst of all..

- Katie

She sees ghosts, she sees demons, she sees 'paranormal' messages..
Yet she keeps her mouth shut to her aunt and to her father.

"Gar nicht so übel, du kleine Schlampe. Man sieht sich immer zweimal, Kleine."

reply

How big is the chance that you meet an another English speaking person in your immediate vicinity on the Singapore market
Erm ............English is a first language in Singapore, so what do you mean by saying what's the chances of meeting another English speaking person in a Singapore market?!? Did you think Singapore was in China?! 

reply

No, I didn't..
Yet.. the largest ethnic group is still the Chinese so yes, and last time I checked it was still an Asian country..
But I guess America has infected that country as well..

Anyway, I expected the Chinese/Indonesian to be the first language..

"Gar nicht so übel, du kleine Schlampe. Man sieht sich immer zweimal, Kleine."

reply

Are you for real?!?!?!?!?! 

My gosh, please shut up before you make everyone aware of how RIDICULOUSLY IGNORANT AND STUPID you are!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Asia country? Yes.
Chinese? Yes.

So freaking what? So ALL Asia countries speak CHINESE?!? Too stupid.

You know NOTHING about Singapore, do you? You are so stupid you thought Marjorie was Japanese and the movie was set in Japan!!!!!!!!!! MWHAAHAHAHAHA!!! How can you watch a movie set in SINGAPORE and think it's JAPAN!?!?!?!?

Seriously, how old are you? Did you like not finish school? I don't want to be rude, in case you are a kid who's in grade school or maybe you are in special education......

cos you're sounding like YOU DONT HAVE A CLUE!!

Look up Singapore - it was a BRITISH colony - so of course they speak English. You saying it's an Asian country that has Chinese majority just shows you are IGNORANT or A CHILD.

America???????????????????? Darling, they speak English there cos they were under the BRITISH - you know, the OTHER country that also speaks English?!?! MWHAHAHAH!!!!!  you really are something else!!!!!!!!!

And you expected Indonesian to be the first language of Singapore?!?!? So, Italian is the first language of France huh? And is Chinese the first language of India?!? You know cos all these countries are like near each other like totally like reals like right?!? MWHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! 

Get a book please, you are soooooooooooooooooooo ignorant!! Or you're a child, in which case you're forgiven!!!

reply

Wow, you know absolutely nothing about Singapore, huh?

reply

Some of the silly nitpicking the OP makes don't even make sense.

"You have bewitched me, body and soul, and I love, I love, I love you." Mr Darcy

reply

[SPOILERS] Questions & Flaws

- Marjorie

How big is the chance you meet a Japanese girl who's name is Marjorie?
I've been twice in Japan, but I never met any girls with Western names..

What does Japan have to do with anything?
- The Bureau

Marjorie said she was from the bureau..
What kind of bureau? A babysitting bureau?
And if so.. what gives her the right to investigate who filed in the divorce between Sam & Anna?

Jamie literally said "thank you for taking care of Katie even though you aren't a babysitter." She said she loves kids, and it gave her a reason to get out of the office. Marjorie later said that her lawyer friend handled Anna's divorce... I guess since Anna was already dead, her lawyer was ok with divulging private information... Although I'm pretty sure divorce filings are public record, since marital status has to be easily accessible, and knowing which partner filed for divorce is part of that public information.

The reason Jamie went to the market was because she had exchanged emails with Ravi and they said they would meet there! It wasn't a coincidence..
2. How big is the chance that you meet an another English speaking personin your immediate vicinity on the Singapore market and not even a Japanese person?
Again with Japan? She knew he spoke English! They had exchanged emails like 10 seconds earlier!

- Josh Lim

Jamie is at the scene when Josh 'kills himself', but she doesn't calls the police.
Maybe she did? Or maybe she didn't want to get implicated... The thing I don't understand about that scene is why he'd die from gouging his eyes out... I'm pretty sure he'd have to bleed out to die, and that would take time, plus liters of blood...

- The dinner

Jamie shows Sam a video about a dinner Anna had with friends.
They use a tablet as a Ouija board.. I really laughed hard about it.
Spirits communicating through technology?

That was the whole point of the movie... A unified language helps people try to reach God (like the story about the Tower of Babel) the current unified language is binary language... That's why that demon communicated using technology... Tablets as spirit boards, videos showing victims telling future victims to commit suicide, etc..

Pretty sure they left her alone in the house that night... Thought it was strange, but they probably thought it'd be ok since she was sleeping.
2. How could Sam not notice the missing bed when he entered the room?
The telescope dissappeared when he was looking out the window... I didn't notice the bed disappearing...

- The telescope

After Sam walked into Katie room to search for her, he apparently walks to the basement, and we see the telescope suddenly in the basement while it was just barely a minute or two earlier still in Katie's room.

The telescope disappeared while he looked out the window, and apparently moved to the basement to show him what had happened before

When he's turning around after watching through the telescope he sees Leviathan for real..
He runs out of the house to escape with Katie.
So the demon just let him go without attacking or following him? Seriously?

The telescope allowed him to see things from the past, for some reason. Leviathan wasn't currently there, it was showing him what had happened with that family years earlier

- The T–V distinction

Isn't it considered extremely rude and impolite to call someone by his first name if you don't know the person yet? (unless the stranger is a teenager)

American's like using first names... I'm guessing you're stuck on your weird Japanese issue?

Jamie does it twice, at May's house and at Josh's workplace.

- The hanging (Sam)

When Sam is hanging on the ceiling, we see the noose is still wide enough to get his head out.
Yet he has a hard time getting out.. the knot was even terribly knotted.

I don't think the tightness of the noose is what kills you, it's the fact that there's nothing to stand on, so your whole weight is on your trachea and you can't breathe. That's why parking underneath him saved him...

- The exorcism

1. Not all priests are being commissioned to work as exorcists, so how big is the chance you'd find a priest who is commissioned in the same city, being at the right place at the right time?

Yes, coincidentally Father Mathew asked Father James to help him find the root of the hacking, which led them to May's house, where Jamie was also looking for May.

2. A priest cannot conduct an exorcism without the express permission of the diocesan bishop in whose territory the exorcism is to take place.
Here he did not ask any permission

So? Are you going to tell on him? He's dead!

3. Father James de Silva wasn't even allowed to do the exorcism, because his faith wasn't strong.
He even said it himself (@ the 01:03:00 point):

"My faith is not as strong as you may think"

That's when Father Mathew convinced him by saying lack of faith is a sign of humanity.

Which makes him vulnerable for the demon.

4. A priest should have at least someone on his side (bishop/priest/deacon) during an exorcism for exactly the reason Father James de Silva was killed.

Was anyone there with the priest during the exorcism in "The exorcist?"... He died, so we saw the consequences of going alone. Seems accurate.

5. A demon does not care for normal (non-baptized/non-believing) humans, so they shouldn't have been able to finish it.. especially because they didn't have holy water.

Apparently the demon didn't like having the feeding tube moved around...
6. What does Jamie use to expel the demon?

She played around with Katie's feeding tube

And worst of all..

- Katie

She sees ghosts, she sees demons, she sees 'paranormal' messages..
Yet she keeps her mouth shut to her aunt and to her father.

She thinks anything she says will interfere with her mom coming back on the seventh day
