A woman smoking in 1914 in England

In episode 1 they show Tommy's mother smoking a cigarette at home, all the way down to her fingers, standing casually smoking it like it's something she did every day.

This seems absurd to me.

Women didn't start smoking cigarettes until the 1920s, and even then it was young single flappers who did it, and they did it at clubs and other fancy places, not at home.
