Anyone else really excited to see this?

I don't expect it to surpass or even equal the original masterpiece, but I'm really eager to see this film. For years now I've hoped for a serious Tsukamoto film (either a samurai or war film), so this is like a dream come true. I think it could potentially be really good, but at very least it will be an unforgettable visual spectacle.

Reviews have been mixed as per usual for Tsukamoto, but I've seen a lot of positive reviews from fans so I'm hopeful. This seems like the perfect war story to implement elements of surrealism from his early work (which I hope appears), as well some intense gore.

Don't expect a deep and meaningful war film like the original by Kon Ichikawa. Shinya Tsukamoto's version is a brutaly graphic horror film about a human being trying to escape from Hell, just like the war was for everyone involved. Terrifylingly powerful film in that regard.

No surrealism really, but the sound design and cinematoraphy are done in the classic Tsukamoto style. It was awesome seeing that done in nature instead of the brooding metropolis. Was definitely one of the best films of 2014 in my opinion.

Extremely, but it's hard to find much info about the film's future. Like almost all of Tsukamoto's work it's being ignored here in the states. I'm hoping maybe his role in the upcoming Scorsese film might generate more interest in his work here, leading to a home video release for Nobi and maybe the rest of his filmography that is out of print or unreleased here.
