Hipster douche, the movie. Awful film.

1. Everything seemed mad-libbed and not part of a cohesive plot, almost like it was a satire of heist movies.
2. You just knew Kevin Spacey was going to pull the "You're not finished" act with Baby.
3. Ansel Elgort is just an awful actor. I hated his character and wanted him to get buckshot, the sooner, the better.
4. It was very obvious Baby was meant to be a hipster d-bag, but they had to make him flawed to be sympathetic to audiences.
5. When I saw Sony at the very beginning and the numerous shots of records and tape players, I knew this movie was nothing more than one gigantic advertisement for vintage music mediums. Sure enough, Sony announced this week they are getting back into making records, and I suspect, if they're not still making cassettes and players, that won't be too far behind.
6. What sort of cute, white baby gets adopted by a black guy who clearly must have been 50 or 60 or older when he adopted him? Why do they still live in a dump when baby makes all that money?
7. Baby is clearly the best driver in the criminal world. Why is he taking crap from Kevin Spacey's character and chump change? He has to have earned him millions on his jobs, he really would keep him on the hook for 10 years over a car full of "merchandise"? At some point, I think it's clear he would have to give him more incentive to work.
8. It's pretty clear Baby never touches his money. How is that possible? He's buying all sorts of vintage electronics, equipment and dresses like a hipster douche, but doesn't touch his money?
9. Multiple clues the writer/director was rich and privileged are evident in the writing. Baby finishes his last job and just decides to walk away and become a pizza delivery driver? Doc never says anything like "You ready to make real money now?" or anything like that? He chooses to go with the aggressive, "I'll kill everyone you love" approach instead of "You wanna make millions, kid?" Baby has this "money isn't everything" attitude.

reply

That well-off people have, but he's clearly not well-off and could use the money.
10. Jon Hamm is the Terminator and gets away from everything. COME ON. That ruined the movie for me.
11. Monica double fisting the assault rifles. Come on, it's 2017, everyone knows better. It didn't even look believable or cool.
12. Apparently, Baby gets away with killing Bats scott-free. It's never brought up again.

I don't know, I can go on, but this was just really bad. Can't recommend, but it's worth a watch at least once on DVD or elsewhere.

reply

13. Monica isn't my wife in this scene.
14. Baby driver is driving like a baby.
15. B-A-B-Y
16. Jon Hamm draper was actualy my favourite character.
17. Baby reused lines from monster's INC.
18. The soldier was unstoppable.
19. Shane/Punisher/ Bernthal is only in the movie for 5-10 min. Then is replaced by a lesser jamie Foxx.
20. Red Hot Chili Pepper's cameo but not even 1 soundtrack in the movie!

reply

I grew up with many of the songs (Baby I'm Yours by Barbara Lewis, and Hocus Pocus (during that frenzied, madcap chase scene through a bank(?)) by Focus, 1965 and 1973 respectively.) I loved it. But that's just me.

reply

this wasnt the question, you went completely off topic WHY??? why do people do this? noone cares if you FUCKING grew up with this music, thank you.

reply

Okay..I read your questions..
1."a satire of heist movies"
Well, it wasn't entirely intended to be taken seriously..:)
3."IAnsel Elgort is just an awful actor"
Maybe (or..Baby) you're not female..or a teenager..(I'm neither and thought he was very right for the part..)

reply

I too am sick of that lame ass excuse as the main reason why someone likes a movie..."I loved the soundtrack! It takes me back to the old days!"

This was the case with Guardians of the Galaxy, Stranger Things, and now this. Guess people are too stupid to realize if you want to hear those songs just look them up on the fucking Internet

reply

HAHAHA

There can be no greater endorsement for a film than this.

At this point, it's painfully clear that thebricks is fully aware that this is a great film from a master class filmmaker, he just can't bear to admit otherwise because that would throw a wrench in his entire shtick of deliberate contrarianism. So naturally he has to invent a bunch of nitpicky bullshit that any simpleton could see right through and mask it underneath an air of false superiority.

And of course it wouldn't be a thebricks rant without a sprinkling of casual racism.

Wonderful.

reply

How is it racist to speak the truth about reality? A cute young white kid like that would not be adopted by an old black man. Period. He would have been adopted by some wealthy Atlanta power couple and lived a great life. I don't know what world you're living in, lol.

As for the movie, lots of people have complained about that awful last segment of the movie. It went down the tubes. I'm not telling people not to see it, but it just wasn't a good movie. Have some respect for my opinion. That's the key word, opinion. Have a nice day.

reply

Lol@master class.

Is this the first movie you've ever seen? It's a good movie but it's nowhere near master class.

reply

"master class filmmaker"

Hahaha GTFO. Why do people deep throat Edgar Wright so much?

Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim, and At World's End. Really are ok. They're entertaining for the light fluffy comedies they are but none of them are amazing or masterful.

He was lucky that he cast a very likable and funny actor in Simon Pegg for his Cornetto trilogy because otherwise they may have turned out as dull and annoying as this piece of crap

Lmfao. Great post!

reply

does the baby wear his headphones while driving? seems kind of stupid from an awareness standpoint

reply

Yes. Think he keeps only one in at times though, but I wasn't paying attention closely. He did it a lot though. He has tinnitus in one ear.

reply

babies cant drive!

reply

But drivers can drive.

reply

I don't agree with all of your points. But yes, it IS a hipster douche movie

reply

So no different from Scott Pilgrim then? Thanks. Blacklisted this movie.

reply

You are blessed with good sense. Rejoice.

reply

I never understand why some people have an aversion to good film making. Maybe they are pissed that Transformers did so poorly at the box office and this did way beyond expectations.

reply

Don't care about Transformers. Nor Fast and Furious, nor most Marvel movies, nor whatever other type of strawman you could make up to discredit my stance.

reply

Yeah, sure...

reply

Strawman.

Blacklisted.

All because some troll bashed a refreshingly great action film.

Blacklisted, lol, you sound like a 12 year old who doesn't know what that means. Get over yourself and get a life if that easily sets you off.

reply

You complain about my usage of words, yet you manage to provide a 'get a life' one liner...

reply

It's not a one liner, you clearly have not experience real life if some troll can convince you to make a blacklist. You have a blacklist huh? What is this ala 50s communist witch hunt? Again, get a life. Creating blacklists especially over trivial matters is never good and reflects very poorly on you. It doesn't make you look cool, it makes you look pathetic and meaningless.

reply

Get a fucking grip on life. Won't bother humoring such an obvious troll any more.
