ENOUGH ALREADY: The Parents Need To Stop Being Fame Hungry

This kid had an amazing thing happen for him.
He not only beat cancer and is a survivor he had a whole city put on a show for him.
This was great. I'm happy he is okay and that his wish, however extravagant, came true.

Now however, it's getting to be very suspicious. I'm started to wonder about his parents and the need to inject Batkid into almost everything.

The fact that his parents are trying to drop him into EVERY possible spotlight imaginable is nauseating. People were even complaining when he wasn't able to do a skit with Andrew Garfield at the Oscars. Attacking Andrew for 'bailing' on Batkid when it wasn't the case, but the better question is WHY SHOULD HE BE AT THE OSCARS IN THE FIRST PLACE? That was a privilege not a right.

There are plenty of other children that are currently in a dire situation that aren't getting half the attention, wishes, or exposure that this kid is and the reason being that his parents seem more concerned with turning him into a celebrity.

The city spent $105,000 making Batkid's wish come true and to be honest it's really embarrassing considering how much other children need right now. Not to mention the fact that there are many other children still in a dire situation that will want to be Batkid too but that wish will never happen because unnecessary and continued focus is on this one particular child.

How much of an increase in donations did this generate?

Couldn't the massive amount of money given to the wish of this one child done much more in the hands of charities for MANY more children?

It could have actually saved the lives of MANY children, but instead it all went to the wish of this one child who had the city itself stop in it's tracks to make it all come true.

Will all the proceeds of this film go to charity?

Ignoring the fact that most children who haven't beaten cancer yet will never see such a thing happen, is it psychologically safe for his parents to teach him that being ill is the way to popularity and fame? What happens when...in spite of all the pushing from his parents...all of this ends and he goes back to being a regular kid?

This is just too much.
Move on to the next kid, he doesn't need to be the only one in the spotlight.

Do the world a favor and go throw yourself off the nearest structure capable of killing you. Society is better off without you.

OP will have to jump hand-in-hand with me, because I agree with everything the OP said.

Greed.

If you disagree with the OP you then must be a lower form of life and therefore should be burned alive feet first.

Totally agree. Nicely writ.

you are very rude and I feel sorry for you. Not everyone gets in the make a wish foundation. No one is forcing you to go see the movie. The Andrew Garfield situation no one really knows what happened it very possible if I remember he, and Andrew were supposed to be announcers for the Oscars, but something came up, and Andrew couldn't go.Do not blame the kid and it very possible this was set in motion before he went into remission if he is in remission. This movie is to other people like him to show how brave he was and not to give up, and that your wishes, and dreams can still come true if you have a illness.

FWIW, I don't blame the kid. But just to throw around some facts:
He is in remission now, he was in remission when the Oscars happened, and he was in remission back when the Batkid thing happened.

I saw one place where his mother said they wanted to wait to do it until he was strong enough. Which I find interesting because I would assume that most Make-a-Wish beneficiaries would be in a hurry to have their wish granted, so they could get it in before they, you know, die.

Exactly. There are some sick children in the world who are receiving no support and no help whatsoever. What makes this one child so special? But, at the same time, I do not blame the child, I am glad he is well and I am glad he got his wish, but for almost the entire world to make a fuss over one child in particular when there are several children with illnesses who receive NOTHING whatsoever. That is not how I see it however, I see it as a "stepping stone" for children in similar situations, I see the boy as an inspiration for other children who are "sharing the boat", do not give up hope, there are people who care, there are people who will help you get better. Perhaps half of those people do think it is not fair just to do this for this one child, but for other children as well. I take it half have their own children, and anyone at any age can come down with an illness. I do not think this movie was that much of a good idea, the event yes, the movie no, but I hope opens eyes and promises a better future for children in general, and older people as well.

The city didn't spend a dime; it was all covered by a private donor, who reimbursed the city for every cent.

Make-A-Wish was swelled with donations and new volunteers and encouraged people who enquired and were moved by the story to get involved. That is worth far more than was spent.

If you had seen the film, you would notice that other children were featured, including one, who worked with Eric Johnston (the Batman in the wish) to create a videogame about fighting cancer, for kids who are still fighting it (available for free).

Rather than trying to tear this down, how about working to help others and take a lesson from those involved? Go out and make a difference, than criticize those who at least made the attempt.

Fortunately, Ah keep mah feathers numbered for just such an emergency!
