Racism at its finest

Trying to force progressive ideals on ethnic peoples and destroy culture in the process. Not as bad as "The Book of Life" where is portrayed the poor mexican girl learning the "superior ways" of the white people.

reply

Actually, if you're talking about the girl-power message of "forcing" a young female huntress on the tradition, I read elsewhere that the filmmakers hugely manipulated that whole angle. In fact this girl wasn't the first woman eagle huntress in her area, and the supposed opposition to her was all faked by editing and such--the couple old-timers who seem to object to a girl learning this skill were in fact the ONLY people the filmmakers could find (out of 200 or more at the climatic event) who had any objection at all to huntresses. It was all manipulated in the editing room to create the appearance of a "controversy" that wasn't really there at all, in order to appeal to Western audiences.

Why are you wasting so much time bashing this film? How many times have you posted on this message board and why? It's a film. What about it offends you so much. People like you are the reason the message boards are being deleted. Why are you so bitter?

You are aware that "The Book of Life" was made by Guillermo Del Toro and Jorge Guttierez who are... you know, Mexican? And it's all about the wonderfulness of the Mexican culture?

Shut up with your self promoting already. Nobody cares.

One, it seemed obvious that most of the men in the story did not have a problem with her. She entered the festival without a problem, and was judged fairly enough to win the tournament.
Also, most of the older people there remember communism, which likely spread the ideal of gender equality.

Please read the research of Adrienne Mayor who published her research on eagle huntresses in Aisholpan's culture. And see pg 18+ of her PDF especially.

I think you meant sexism and not racism. Anyhow, I felt that the angle of the men eagle hunters being against her was totally forced and unnatural. I did not get the impression that men were against her with the exception of a few. And like another poster mentioned, I suppose it was made this way to appeal to western culture. Just sad that everything has to be politicized now. It was a fine film and would have been just as fine without the forced false sexism on the viewer.

The filmmakers have basically committed ethno-aesthetic genocide with this movie. Their brutal technique of cultural erasure makes Adolf Hitler look like Maya Deren. Honestly I think they should be arrested and punished severely.

Please read the research on other eagle huntress ignored then trivialized by Otto Bell.

Who gives a shit? Why are you wasting your time and effort writing diatribes against this film "since spring". Don't you have anything important to worry about? It's a movie, no more--made for entertainment. It's nothing to get your sphincter in a knot over.
