8.1 - With one bad review?

Don't understand how it's rated '8.1', yet has a really bad review. ONE really bad review (so far, as of 03/15/2016).

i havn't seen it yet, but what your saying makes a little bit of sense only because if you read the review... its REALLY long and i think full of to much information ... i feel like the ratings could be high maybe just cause of some danny glover fans or something giving it 10 stars before watching it... then read the review and never watch it... hence why i'm not really the biggest fan of reviews that go longer then a paragraph. to much info can turn ppl off a movie really quick (you can basically tell the story in a review that is as long as this one and give away everything making the movie not worth watching unless your a big fan)

Before the average people start voting on it, the film makers themselves, their family, their friends, producers, etc all vote and drive the rating up. 99% of movies go through this, and once a few thousand people have rated it, a more real grade pops up. Right now there's less than 1000 votes and it's already down to 6.2, so the true quality is starting to show through.

This movie is definitely bad but it has a sort of endearing quality somehow, and personally I like "bad" movies, that aren't J. J. Abrams or Michael Bay, I just like real people making low budget movies, all of my favorite movies are that way.

Agreed!

There's good low-budget movies and then there's bad ones. Sorry, but this one is definitely the latter. This movie just lacks story, energy and good acting. The only time it gets a little interesting and actually feels like a real movie is when Danny Glover in on the screen. The rest is just flat, flat, flat. What bugles my mind is that this was directed by TWO directors and written by no less than three writers. What went wrong? Too many hands stirring the pot?

When I saw this on Netflix I looked it up here and saw a rating of 6.2 and some positive reviews so I said to my wife "I think I found a good comedy for us to watch, oh love of my life". In the end I found myself watching a mediocre, cheap TV quality movie that was way below my expectations. I often hear the expression "cardboard characters" or something like that, well this is the first time I want to use that. I wish I could've just switch to another movie but my wife refused.

I actually didn't think it was that bad...but I also work in the restaurant business as a server and could really relate to some of the scenes with rude customers and snotty managers.

It's a metascore, made up of internal (here at imdb) & external (external critics etc) and you can read the explanation of same on the imdb board.

Thanks god it isn't created purely from some of the people that give fake reviews, overly generous reviews, reviews to "even up the score", and find Adam Sandler comedies "hilarious..."
