It's not supposed to be a soap

At least that's what I thought but are all the young who study media studies supposed to think those are the only valid stories.

I've just been watching episode 4.

There's a girl embarking on her career and the guy comes in - yeah I could probably remember their names but I care so little about them - and informs her that she must throw the race. Racing takes an exceptionally dim view of people who so blatantly throw races and it would at the very least end in a long suspension if not jail. So she's knowingly destroyed her life at the behest of her "friend". And that wasn't even as close to ridiculous as Police Girl abandoning a child near the road. And then to cap it off a revelation between the 2 girls because we just hadn't had enough drama. It really was like "Hollyoaks".

In an adult murder drama the characters often have individual issues but really don't let it deflect from the main story and try not to fit in 6 impossible things before breakfast. And as many have said here it would help if they weren't all so unlikeable. I'll probably watch until the end because I'm a masochist.

I agree.

If it was a soap they would at least not rely on montage sequences of people partying, drug visions or... well... visions. There is a certain awkwardness when it comes to artistic elements which reminds me a bit of a film student trying to immitate his idol: it is obvious what the show wants to accomplish with it but it just works on an intellectual level as the emotional effect is lost in stylistic wankery.
