this tripe is 8.1 on imdb

i'd put it at about 6.

now, i'm not knocking the kung fu, but there should be more to a multi-season show than just that stuff. but there isnt, just a simpering southern-fried ham actor (is he dead yet?), and a perky murderous redhead with her sillly 'butterflys'. nothing about the show is carefully crafted, other than the fight scenes.

its just dumb.

The problem with TV shows on IMDB is that they're rated on the whole instead of a per episode, or at least per season basis. Which is how it should be, There should be a main page that tallies the average across all seasons, with each season having it's own rating system.

Take a look at The Simpsons. The show has an 8.7...The first 10 seasons might warrant that score, but the following 15 or whatever do not. I think that's the case with a lot of TV ratings, is that they have several people rate the show high in it's first season and never go back to change it if they stop watching. The Big Bang Theory is another example, the show was decent when it started and now its dog shit, but it's rated at 8.3. No way does it deserve that, it's a 6/10 at best. But the rating is still high, and the most popular reviews at the bottom of the page are all 9 and 10 stars as well.

no argument that the rating system on imdb is wacked - every blockbuster is an 8. mass marketing to mass tastes yields massively poor evaluations, with fine classics, especially pre-imdb, judged by a more critically sophisticated audience, tend to be rated lower.

i wouldnt argue, though, that any of the episodes in this show were very good, unlike shows which started out strong and tapered off. that's a bit of a more subtle criticism of the ratings system.

dont have any solutions, am just mystified that so many thought so highly this show.

Eh, I enjoy it. I love the red head and I think she's pretty attractive along with many of those under her wing (especially her daughter).

I love the décor, and clothing, vibrant and colorful if not unique for each Baron household clan. Overall it's visually stunning to the eyes. Story I guess is slightly above average but still a fun watch with Nick Front there as well. The only annoying one is MK imo.

If it were a 6, I give it a 6.8 but I think it deserves at least a 7.4. It's not just IMDB with a 8.1, TV.com has it at 8.5, metacritic at 8.3, rotten tomatoes at 77%, and users have a 90-97% favorability for the show.
