Speculating on who actually poisoned Jade

Feel free to just leave the character's name if you want.

If you feel compelled to explain why in detail, all the more better.

I have my own assumption and it isn't anyone I've come across yet in any of the other topics discussing episode 5.

I'm going to give my own answer regarding who I think poisoned her and hide it so that it doesn't influence your own answer in any respect. Well, at least, before you answer this to begin with anyway. Once you've responded with your own answer, feel free to view my answer at that point and we can discuss if you think I'm completely off my knockers or my guess is as good as anyone else's or quite possibly I've nailed it.

I'm thinking it's the lady who was hiding under the table with the child when Sunny and his Baron came back after attempting to hunt down the Widow. Given somewhat of her backstory and knowledge and then the Baron's response at the end of their scene, "thank you for your loyalty." She may be responsible for the Baron's original 2nd wife's death actually as well.

Like they say, time will tell.

reply

you may be right but i think it's simply going to be Lydia who poisoned Jade. she played nice with Lydia while trying to off her. Lydia's comment to Quinn...."IT'S ALWAYS GONNA BE YOU AND ME QUINN. I WILL BE BY YOUR SIDE WHEN THE WOLVES REACH OUR DOOR...".

her statement could just be a misdirect but i have a feeling in this situation it's Occam's Razor where the simplest explanation is usually the right one.

reply

Wife #1. Her turnabout was too strange.

I got somethin' to say. And then I ain't gonna say no more.

reply

The obvious suspect is Lydia. She has all the motivation in the world.

It could also be Veil. Sunny told her expressly not to poison the Baron, because that would "lead the Widow to our door" and make it much more difficult for them to get out of the Badlands. But Veil could still get back at the Baron by taking away his new young bride, taking away someone the Baron loves just like the Baron took away her parents.

This was also hinted at in the previews, when Sunny tells Veil she's making it more difficult for them to leave.

And then there's Ryder...he's already planning to betray his father, and in his eyes Jade has betrayed him by ending their relationship and "choosing" his father over him. He may decide on revenge against his father AND Jade.

So Lydia, Veil or Ryder. It all depends on whether the show is trying to intentionally throw us off, or whether the Lydia angle is what it seems to be.

reply

What if Jade poisoned herself to frame Lydia as some sort of preemptive strike?

She made an ostentatious effort to show Quinn that she was working in the fields alongside Lydia.

Maybe she deviously used just the right amount to put herself 'under' but not enough for it to fatal. She knows Quinn will send for the highly competent Veil immediately.

Lydia just seems like too obvious a choice.

Because I say so.

reply

Yeah I was thinking that Jade poisoned herself as well Lydia is way too obvious especially when we learned that she poisoned the 2nd wife.

reply

My money are on Jade. 😏

reply

No,it cant be Jade.My bet its Veil.

reply

Well we don't know if Quinn knows Lydia poisoned his second wife. All we know is that the handmaiden, Mari, says she thinks it was Lydia.

If Quinn had some other hot young thing, and he knew Lydia poisoned her, do you think he would just forget about it and remain happily married? Hell no. He'd gut her and string her up on the fort gates. He's that kind of ruthless warlord.

So I don't think Jade would have made some pre-emptive move to frame Lydia. Of course, i could be wrong, and hopefully we find out on Sunday.

I was actually thinking it might have been Mari (that's the one Jade was talking with and told her to keep calling her Jade, instead of Baroness, right?). I thought maybe the fact that Jade still wants her to think of her as her equal and still call her Jade, may have caused some bitterness, since Jade has moved up in Quinn's house and will no longer be her equal?

I'm sure I'm wrong, but I thought Lydia was the obvious choice and thought they were just trying to make us think it was her?

I do agree that it could have also been the woman that was hiding with the boy and Quinn thanked her for her loyalty. Hopefully it will be revealed before the season's end, but I won't hold my breath, haha!

People on board a ship that's capsizing don't use that many exclamation marks.

Quinn loves Lydia. He may be attracted to other young, beautiful women and I suspect he is marrying Jade also to spite his son but in the end Lydia build the fort with him. They are equals , they think alike.

I am quite sure Jade poisoned herself to get Lydia banished.

It reminds me of a turkish show about a sultan . His new lover disappears and everybody suspects his wife but he tells them he sent her away . The truth is he covered for his wife killing his lover because at the end of the day he loved her and she was the mother of his children.

Called it :)

Because I say so.

reply

No doubt in my mind it was Jade herself, when Lydia is led out, she has a quick smile at her

reply

yea this is what I thought as well.

reply

Def Jade

She did it to throw suspicion on Lydia and get her thrown out.

reply

Actually I'd have thought this is fact rather than speculation. The smile when Lydia leaves the room confirms it.

Even earlier we learn that she is ambitious. She admires the widow and has her wits about her, with that pointed solution she offers for the poppy field problem. She even speaks for the Baron when he suffers a headache.

She may have an acomplice though, e.g. Ryder.
That's the thing about scripts: if it is uncertain there is no truth. If we assume there is an answer in the writers head right now it may still change later on to suit the needs of the next season. That holds true for the perpetrator and any acomplices she (or he) may have.

reply

Lydia and Ryder are the obvious suspects, as spurned wife and spurned lover. It doesn't seem to be in Veil's character, as portrayed, to murder an innocent to avenge a wrong by someone else. But don't forget, both Lydia's father and the Widow apparently have agents inside the fort, who may have reasons not yet revealed. And honestly, the Baron has plenty of enemies. Doesn't even have to be someone we've seen yet.

reply

I agree that Veil should be ruled out as a suspect. She may try to kill in defense, but she won't draw danger by going on offense to kill.

My longshot bet is one of the Clippers out in the poppy field when Jade was instructing them how to harvest. The camera just seemed to linger a tad long. Motivation could just be a simple affront to his status having to do menial work. Further exacerbation could be a woman in a patriarchy doing the teaching.

reply

I took the wife's line, "I don't want it to be as rivals" as her implying a rivalry was inevitable, so she took Jade out.

My second guess was the Wheelchair guy or even the Son. He messes with Quinn's second wives' to get one over his dad, then kills them because their presence hurts his mother.

reply

I agree with the spec of the OP for various reasons. That person's full story has yet to be told!

reply

I suspected her first and foremost, too! Actually, my obvious first thought was Lydia and then it self-corrected to "no way...this show ain't that dumb."
My second most likely suspect - Ryder
3rd - Veil
