I was really looking forward to this because The Spoils of Babylon was one of the funniest shows I ever saw. The Spoils Before Dying, however, is just not funny. The plot stinks, the main character is not at all funny and can't act, and it's oddly devoid of humor. The only saving grace is Will Ferrell's introductions, but that's hardly enough. I watched the first two and a half episodes and shut it off permanently.
shareI had exactly the opposite experience. I watched SOB and thought it was terrible; it came across as one giant indulgence for me.
I wasn't even going to watch SBD, but saw a couple of ads and thought, "Well, ok, if it's as bad as SOB, I can just shut it off." I really enjoyed it, though.
I liked the laughably-cool jazzman stereotype, the hard-boiled cops, and Hoover at the end. Wigg was a cute as ever. Some of the sight-gags really stuck (the huge pistol, the huge brandy snifter).
I also enjoyed the whole film noir spoof, since I like those films anyway. SOB was more of a '70's nighttime miniseries satire, and I never really got into those.
