Do Pakistani people really don't know what Mahabharat is?

While its really not important to discuss this here, but after watching this movie I was bit surprised that Chand Nawab(Reporter) doesn't know anything about Mahabharat when Pavan(Salman) asked him "Haven't you seen Mahabharata?". Do all the Pakistani really don't know what Mahabharat is?! Even old generation? I know Pakistani may not know about Hinduism but I thought Mahabharata is pretty common phrase/word used in Bollywood movie. I wouldn't expect someone from China to know this but Pakistan people...

Well as a Pakistani, i can answer that.

May be some don't know what is "mahabharat" but majority know it. This rift is known to us all. But i saw something else in movie too that people across the border whether it be India or Pakistan, they dam care about animosity and hatred. This bull$hit is caused by our illiterate and mindless morons i.e. politicians.

reply

You are right my paki brother! This animosity is nothing but a pseudomonster created by the politicians of the either side! I long for it to end so that we can live like loving neighbours!

But the problem is...too much damage has been done on the either side...! That's what makes me sad and pessimistic!:(

Believe me, thanks to Indian Cinema (and more recently, the television) Pakistanis know a lot more about India than Indians do about Pakistan. Most of the people have a general idea what Mahabharat is, and people of my generation know a lot more about it, because of BR Chopra's TV serial which was quite popular on this side of the border too. I wish our mass media were as powerful as India's. It would have cleared many misconceptions about Pakistan that people in India generally hold (as is evident by the portrayal of Pakistan and Pakistani people in mainstream Indian movies and the comments you find on various internet forums). As for the scene in the movie, I hope that the writer was not making a statement about the general ignorance of Pakistanis, and only about the ignorance of one individual. Pakistanis are not as ignorant about their neighbor as some people might think (or some people might like).

Saw the movie just now and came to rate it 10/10 here! It is pleasant to our brothers from the other side also liked it and do know about our good things too! I pray God, Allah, Waheguru, Ram and all other Gods to Let the PEACE upon us! It is such a funny thing that we fight with each other for the land that nobody can have for ever and in the names of our respective Gods with whom we have never met and how easily we hurt the actual Gods before us- the fellow humans!!!

Well, I have a very rudimentary understanding of Mahabharata as a Hindu religious epic. I don't know any details about it, though. However, being a fringe fan of Indian cinema, I may not be the best person to answer this question. It is worth mentioning that when I watched this movie in the cinema, I asked my peers, who are really into Indian movies, about the word but they were at a loss to really explain it to me. With one of my friends saying that Mahbharata is actually the "undivided subcontinent". 
