His mother says he can't leave the house the rest of summer. In their room, he thanks Ben for coming back for him, and I think there was something about whether it was cool (I guess if he looked cool standing up to Shane?) or maybe he was asking if they were cool and Ben said yeah, and Ben they're friends again, I guess.
And then they hear rocks being thrown at their window and outside it's Harriet and the other curly haired girl and Jack apologizes to Harriet and Harriet says it was ok, and that Robyn said she was sorry and that Jack could come by if he's feeling better and Jack said yeah, probably not. They brought over Jack's clothes, the wallet was empty but that's how they found it. Harriet also brought him something. It's a paper crown she made, Ben said he'd like it. He does, they go on the bike ride depicted on the poster and he's wearing his crown, King Jack.
I guess he's realized he didn't have as few friends as he thought, and the crown I guess means they might stop calling him Scab, and also, the bike ride means he probably wasn't taking being told not to leave the house all summer too seriously and also, he wasn't going to be hiding from Shane.
I mean, really, how is he going to entertain Ben if he isn't allowed to leave the house, anyway?
But uh... the mood was brighter and more lens-flarey, you can see it in the poster/publicity shots, there was smiling and stuff.
Basically, it's as happy an ending as "we still live in a boring, run-down small town" was going to get, you know "we've got childhood friends now, and we'll have nice things to reminisce about when we're older and see each other again after having moved far away from each other and gone on to do whatever adult things life deals us."
