Gas station scene (spoilers)

Did anyone think Leah's reaction to Carter jumping/beating up the dude at the gas station was really over the top? I mean, yeah Carter threw a few too many punches but she was balling super dramatic, telling him she doesn't know him anymore...LOL. Plus we never actually saw Carter's face/demeanor change to crazy/evil status, the way Leah later described it to her friend. Gonna blame that last fact on bad directing/editing.

I thought her reaction was normal.
Carter reaction was also suppose to be over the top because he's psycho.
Plus it did look from Carter's perspective that the random guy was hollering at the chick.
Common sense would be to talk to the driver of the vehicle about a car that interest you not the female passenger.

Writing was not terrible at all in this movie. You want terrible writing... go see San Andreas.

and the whole world has to answer right now just to tell you once again. Who's Bad?

reply

Remember this is a movie. People have become so sensitized to things. Think, if in your normal life, how you ever experienced this?

You gals are missing the point. The movie is trying to give you the warning signs. And the final conclusion, which is not good.

So stop your fantasizing about the man being "Crazy" about you. Because, that is exactly what he is: CRAZY

reply

Her reaction was normal for someone who'd never seen someone explode like that. He savagely beat up a man just for talking to her- I'd be scared to get back in the car with him after that lol

reply

True, MAYBE he would've gotten a pass and Leah would've been able to get passed it if Carter would've given the guy warning , Much in the same way as he did when he "saved" her from the drunk guy harassing her. Had he given that dude warning and the guy would've reacted negatively and it just so happened to have escalated to that point where he beats him up then "maybe" he could've smoothed that over. but the way he just snapped. I get her fear. Plus, I also think had he been smooth or acted differently in the restaurant afterward. That would've probably helped as well.

reply

Yeah, he just came off way too strong overall. At the gas station, he came too strong by savagely beating that man without warning and without being provoked and at the restaurant if he'd played his cards a little better , I think he would've been in the clear in a few days

reply

Or, the scene could've been like this when Carter sees the man, he walks back to car:

CARTER: What's going here, man?

GUY: Nothing, man. Just was asking your lady about your ride. That's all.

CARTER: Was he bothering you, baby?

LEAH: Um, no. It's okay. Carter, just get in and let's go, okay.

GUY: Man, lookI said it was no damn prob----

CARTER: You need to back the hell up, okay.

Carter turns to walk to the car. The guy follows him and puts his hands on Carter's shoulder

GUY: Hey, man. Listen...

Then that's when Carter starts beating him up.

reply

Haha, nice. Yeah, buildup like that would have definitely made the scene more plausible, in my opinion. Also (and I know this sounds crazy), I think it would have been better story-wise if Carter actually killed the guy. I know that's kinda dark, but it would have made Leah's over the top reaction more believable.

reply

Thank you! I kinda yours too but you gotta remember, If he would've killed the guy, he would've been arrested for murder/manslaughter and the movie basically would've been over.

Also, when she tries to get Carter off of him, he accidentally hits her. That would've been good and real reason to break things off.

reply

I actually wouldn't have gotten back in the car w/him! I would have been afraid he'd beat me up next for "inviting" that guy to talk to me or some other such nonsense.

reply

Yes. I would not have left him for that. Truth be told, it would have turned me on. Most men don't fight like that over women anymore. I would have just told him to chill out and have some wine and assured I'm not going anywhere. Call me old fashioned, but I liked that shyt. And Ealy was a helluva lot sexier than Morris Chestnut.

Perhaps because most men are not cavemen animals and prefer to use their brains and walk away from a fight than to engage and make the issue even worse plus you don't know if the other dude is armed or not.
Unless that person is coming towards you with intent to harm you, then you have the right to defend yourself.
Being smart is better than behaving like an immature ape to serve his or her ego.

reply

You are either trolling or a total moron. Why would it turn you on when he beats up a guy for ABSOLUTELY no reason??

reply

I like weird guys. Sue me. Besides that, we're talking about Michael Ealy. The eyes alone are enough to forgive almost anything. Besides that, the man who got beat up was pretty creepy himself. You don't just come up to a woman alone in a car like that.

reply

If he had just hit him once ok. But he kept on hitting him. He would have killed him had she not started screaming and the other guy pointing the gun. I don't think his reaction was the least bit normal and I wouldn't have gotten back in the car with him after that. I like the other guy better--more masculine (yet not crazy), nice smile, but different strokes for different folks.

reply

I totally agree with everything you said.

If the gas station guy called the police and had Carter arrested and convicted for the incident, it would have been a short movie.

reply

Not at all. I would have called my parents to come get me. I would not be riding anywhere with him. He had no reason to beat that guy up.

reply

Your parents?? LOL. Are you 12? Damn, what's wrong with women these days? Can't any of you handle a tough guy?

reply

Yes, parents because the gas station seemed close to their house. I want no parts of a psychotic man and I'm not a desperate self-loather who put pretty blue eyes above my own safety. That's what's wrong with smart women (with self-esteem) these days.

reply

Thank you! I can't believe some are saying her reaction was OTT. Her reaction made perfect sense given how Carter reacted. And, like you, I would have called my parents for a ride b/c there's no way I would have gotten back in the car w/that psycho!

I think Michael Ealy is very attractive but he's not so attractive that I would overlook that ridiculously violent act w/that gas station guy.

reply

Her reaction was normal! I would have acted the same way! This is not normal behavior to beat the crap out of someone for no reason. Why would any decent, intelligent woman would continue to have a relationship with this crazy, unstable man.

reply

" Why would any decent, intelligent woman would continue to have a relationship with this crazy, unstable man."

It's Michael Ealy. That's why.

reply

Literary, lol!

How are you doing, girl? It's VERY obvious you looooooove Michael Ealy! (I'm sorry Fox didn't commit to his show "Almost Human." I loved that show!)

Anyway, I guess you wouldn't feel that way if she had hooked up with Flavor Flav? In fact, you'd help her call the cops on his ass, wouldn't you? ROTFL!!!!!

reply

That scene was not over the top, they had too show how sick and crazy he was, so the writing was on point at displaying who he really was. And her screaming and panicking was Normal, seeing your boyfriend beat a guy half to death can look terrifying to a woman who didn't expect it.
